You also thought that the Mustangs would "handle" the Rebels too...that wasn't the case.

Lol you are correct!  I will be wrong many times again.  Congrats to Rebels they are better than expected but the Mustangs couldn’t have played worse.  I think everyone may be inflating how good McKenzie really is at this point.

Lots of movement in the rankings this week. Several teams in the top 10 took opening week losses. So some moved up while others moved down.

1.  Henry Co. 1-0 42-10 W over Brighton

2.  Dyersburg 1-0 33-7 W over Dyer Co

3.  Munford 1-0 30-13 W over Covington

T4.  Haywood 1-0 28-21 W over PURE Youth Academy

T4.  Riverside 0-1 35-14 L to Collierville

6.  Hardin Co. 1-0 48-12 W over Memphis Business Academy

7.  McKenzie 1-0 28-12 W over the Stanks

8.  USJ 1-0 W 14-7 over Peabody

9.  Union City 0-1 40-6 L to Ensworth

10.  Covington 0-1 30-13 L to Munford

Outside Looking In- Dresden 1-0, Crockett Co. 1-0, Huntingdung 0-1, Milan 1-0, South Gibson 0-1, JCS 1-0

What do you folks think??

Should learn a lot about the Tigers Friday night with Giles County coming to town. I think will be a good measuring stick for where this team is at. I’m not gonna get to high on them till I see how this game shakes out. HC looked pretty good for the most part in game one against a week opponent. Moved the ball well on the ground and through the air. Defense looked good other than a couple of breakdowns.

Think Crockett, Milan, SGC are all better than Haywood this year.

I think your probably right. Just need to see Haywood lose a game before I move them.

I believe this is correct. At a glance at Friday night's score, one would wonder what is going on with Haywood. Keep in mind that they were without their starting QB as well as #2 QB Friday night. Not to mention their QB from last year has transferred. So in a way, they were playing with the #4 QB. I would say this is odd for the 1st game of the season. I do however believe that this year's Haywood squad is not going to be the same as the past several years.

Good list BPM. I would go ahead and drop Haywood way down and flip USJ and Union City, but I get why you haven’t. The latter will get sorted out this week anyway.

Can’t quite throw them in the honorable mention after a loss, but I think Peabody will make some noise before this season is over with. They have size, speed and are well-coached. The cupboard is not bare in Trenton.

Mustanks actually could have played worse.  It is my opinion that there isn't any inflating going on but rather an underestimating of how good a coach that Comer is.  You don't accidentally average 8.5 wins a season for 23 seasons.  He will hit 200 wins this season and has consistently adapted his offensive and defensive systems based on the strengths of his players and not forced them into some antiquated offense from the early 1900's.  Swenson won't get 200, Mansfield didn't either, and even the great Paul Ward fell short.  Looks like Comer and the Rebs were just better prepared for the game Friday night than Swenson and the ponies.

    • Playing high school sports is a privilege not a right.  The college did not have to rescind the scholarship.  Scholarship offers are pulled all the time for a number of reasons. That was 100% their choice.  A coach can keep, cut, or dismiss any player that they want to without reason anytime they want.  Is that the right way to run a program?? I don't think that it is, but these are the facts of the matter. This case has absolutely 0% chance of going in the plaintiff's favor. Futhermore, I'd imagine that these administrators and the coach are a part of some teaching or coaching organization that will cover at least 1 million dollars each in legal fees. Obviously the kid and her family feel like there were "damages" thus the lawsuit.  Unfortunately, the law is not on their side in this case.
    • Maryville will recapture the loses from last year against West, Bradley and Farragut. The Bearden game will be the tough one but I look for the wheels to come off that ride somewhere down the road because of all the crap that goes on there. I know to many parents there and some of the things I've been told and some of the post a few of them have made on facebook. They all can't be liars.
    • If Heritage moves down and Alcoa moves up the best thing for Heritage is to do what William Blount did when theystopped playing Maryville or meet certain defeat. Honestly can't see Alcoa not moving up the way the county is growing. Might be in the Mountaineers best interest to stay in 5A because none of those teams on their schedule are anything close to Alcoa.
    • I say over as well. Barney, regarding the move to 4A, will the cross-town blowhards move up as well??
