Completely unrelated to anything being discussed right now. And forgive me if someone has cleared it up on these boards before. but looking at the TSSAA classifications and numbers. 1A enrollment cut off is supposed to be 374, but MASE has 378 so how are they still playing in 1A?

Good point. I guess we are a “huge” school in relation to Coalfield but numbers don’t always equal talent and vice versa

I see now MASE and Union City use the same counting method

True but you could combine Coalfield and Oakdale and you still would only have 302 enrolled. If you did that you would have a pretty competitive team in 1A. I use those 2 as an example as they are only about 15 miles apart as a crow flies lol. If you added the 5-6 good players that Oakdales has to this year's Coalfiled team then they would be a legit title contender. Thats not going to happen but its interesting to think about.

Sour pitt, Jasper, Whitwell North Jackson Al, are within 15 miles of each other all have won a state championship  Two 1A one 2A, one 3A. and not a big city till  Chattanooga thirty miles away. Some areas just seem have more talent than others.

Very true and my point also being I think some of these small schools that have 160 and less enrollment would benefit from possibly consolidating especially when they're within 15 Mi of each other. Leave the existing schools for elementary and middle schools and then consolidate some of the high schools for better education and obviously better athletics.

It simply means they have that ability to do so. 500 kids vs. 150 kids, u are gonna find some talent that you won’t at 150. 3A pool means 3A school, not in enrollment numbers but in the talent u can find. Why do they lose to 1A programs? Those schools are dipping into another pool in their area, getting better talent and better coaching for sure.  It all makes sense now.
