It’s that time of the year the playoff picture starts to take shape. Here is a look at who would play who if the playoffs started Friday. I’ll update it each week leading up to the playoffs. There is still a lot of region battles going on and I have a feeling we will see some movement between now and Oct 27th.

Big Games this week

Sevier Co vs Daniel Boone

Mo West vs David Crockett

Bearden vs Oak Ridge- non region

Shelbyville vs Lawrence Co

Beech vs Siegel-non region

Portland vs Hendersonville

*= In the playoffs

#= out of the playoffs

$=Region Champion

Region 1 standings

Sevier Co ( 6-1 3-0)*

Mo West (3-4 2-1)

Daniel Boone (3-3 2-1)

TN High (4-3 1-2)

David Crockett (3-4 1-2)

Cocke Co (1-6 0-3)

Sevier Co and Daniel Boone match up this week in a key Region game. If Sevier wins they can wrap up a share of the region championship.  For Daniel Boone they could really throw a wrench in the region by knock off Sevier. Mo West can all but seal up 2nd with a win Friday over David Crockett. For Crockett a win would get them right back in the playoff picture. A lose would almost certainly put them out of the playoffs. Tn High can seal their playoff spot with a win over Cocke Co and put Cocke Co out of playoff contention Friday.

Region 2

Powell (6-2 3-0)*

Knox West (7-1 2-0)*

Knox Halls (7-1 1-1)

Knox Central (4-4 0-2)

Heritage (2-5 0-3)

The only team playing in this region next Friday is Heritage taking on Lenior City in a non region match up. The next 2 weeks has some great match-ups coming out of this region

Current match up if the playoffs started Friday

Sevier Co vs Knox Central

Mo West vs Knox Halls

Knox West vs Daniel Boone

Powell vs Tn High

Region 3

Oak Ridge (6-1 2-0)*

Lenior City ( 5-2 2-0)*

Clinton (2-6 1-2)

Campbell Co (3-5 1-2)

Karns (1-7 0-2)

Oak Ridge goes out of region again for a big match-up with Bearden. Lenior City takes a trip over to Heritage in another non-region game. Looking forward to Oak Ridge and LC play in 2 weeks.

Region 4

McMinn Co (6-2 4-0)*

East Ham (6-2 3-1)*

Walker Valley (6-2 3-1)*

Rhea Co (4-4 2-2)*

Ooltewah (1-7 0-4)#

Howard (1-6 0-4)#

The playoff teams are set in this region with Rhea winning at Ooltewah last night. Now it comes down to the last week when we will find out who goes where in the playoffs.

If the playoffs started Friday

Oak Ridge vs Rhea Co

Lenior City vs Walker Valley

East Ham  vs Clinton

McMinn Co vs Campbell Co

Region 5

Shelbyville (6-1 3-0)

Tullahoma ( 6-2 3-1)

Columbia (5-3 3-2)*

Lawrence Co (3-4 2-2)

Lincoln Co (3-4 2-2)

Franklin Co (1-7 1-3)

Spring Hill (2-6 0-4)#

Shelbyville and Lawrence Co match up this week in a key region game. Shelbyville can take another step towards a region championship, but Lawrence can put themselves in a better playoff spot with a win.

Region 6

Centennial (7-1 3-0)*

Page (7-1 3-0)*

Nolensville (7-1 3-1)*

Hillsboro (5-3 1-2)

James Lawson (3-5 0-4)#

Glencliff ( 2-5 0-3)

The only match up in this region this week is Glencliff going out of region to play Mt Juliet Christian.  Two weeks will be the region  championship  game between Centennial and Page.

If they playoffs started Friday

Shelbyville vs Hillsboro

Tullahoma vs Nolensville

Page vs Columbia

Centennial vs Lawrence Co

Region 7

Henry Co (7-1 4-0)*

Hendersonville (5-2 2-1)

Springfield (4-4 2-2)

Beech (3-4 2-1)

Portland  (1-6 0-3)

Hunters Lane (1-7 0-3)

This region has been entertaining to follow. This week gives us Hendersonville welcoming Portland this week. For Hendersonville a win keeps the region championship hopes alive. For Portland if they win it keeps their playoff hopes alive.

Region 8

Southwind (8-0 4-0)$

Munford (7-1 3-1) *

Overton (4-4 2-2)

Memphis Central (4-4 2-2)

Brighton (3-5 1-3) #

Kingsbury  (0-8 0-4)#

Southwind has wrapped up the championship. They only match-ups in this region are non-region games with Memphis Central playing Manassas and Munford taking on Lausanne.

In region 7, I think you need to move up Beech two spots - better in region record than Springfield and beat Hendersonville head to head.

I was kind of wondering that when I was looking at the TSSAA region standings. I went off what they had as the region standings. I agree Beech should probably be 2nd. Like you said they beat H-ville and I would think 2-1 is better than 2-2. However, I think the Tssaa looks at it as all three have two wins and first tie breaker is overall record which H-villa does have. I don’t know but should straight out here in the coming weeks.

Originally thought that R1 would go 0-4 against R2 in the 1st round, but Sevier County is playing pretty well right now so I would give them the bump over Central.       For the other 3 games, the R2 teams would all win by a very comfortable margin, at least 20 points.      Even if Sevier County won in the 1st round they would eventually get thumped by West or Powell

The final region standings for region 7 will shake out to be Henry County, Beech, Hendersonville, and then Springfield.
Thanks for the breakdown for the entire class. Good stuff.

I wouldnt sell Mo west short and I think Heritage beats Central.

What happens if Rhea beats East Ham and McMinn beats Walker Valley?  3 way tie for 2? Or Walker beats McMinn and East Hamilton beats Rhea?

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
