Oh, Mr. Villars,

I see you are serious now.  You changed your font and had someone else type up your message.

Please spare us all the sanctimonious babble. While I take potshots at a few of you clowns, you directly disparaged teens last year on these very boards.  You called a couple of teens who made mistakes “delinquents”.

Also, your self-righteous propaganda has to stop.  You personally recruited all of Mike Sutherland’s kids to leave Boyd and go to McCallie.  You didn’t even send your own kid to McCallie until he had repeated 8th grade!  McCallie’s own Brayden Ryan was a state placer the year before, but he lost his spot to your son last year.  You brought a kid in from North Carolina and put him up off-campus.   One of your wrestlers lived with a coach.  You brought a kid in from another city in Tennessee and put him up in the dorms. You recruited wrestlers from Soddy.  I commend you for putting in the work necessary to rebuild your program. Keep recruiting, Villars!  But please don’t pretend like only the “bad guys” are doing it…

Father Ryan recruited Tran from Summit. Cleveland has always had move-ins, as far back as when Triston Blansit and Ethan West lived in Georgia and commuted to Cleveland every morning.

Bottom line: Kids will move or find their way to a program that offers something they are looking for.  Your dorms are full of Canadian football players the same way Baylor’s are.  Stop with the “bad guy” propaganda.

As for scheduling: Baylor appears to have the hardest schedule in the state.  They traveled out of state 5x in the month of December and collectively wrestled over 100 nationally ranked individual opponents. The give and take of that is that they don’t compete locally as much.  While that is a different experience than what you are providing at McCallie, it doesn’t make your experience inherently better.  Nor does it make their experience necessarily any better; just different.  For many of the families at Baylor, they are seeking national exposure to get opportunities at highly selective universities. Baylor's job isn't to compete to please you and Mr. Rorak.

I have mentioned this before, but I am of the mind that the Tennessee private schools should operate like other National Prep schools. The best thing that could happen to them is for the TSSAA to stop sanctioning private school wrestling. Then they could operate like Lake Highland, Green Farms, Blair, St. Christophers, Gilman, Sem, and others.

Everything said in Bob's post is 100% fact. Dylan was held back in first. Great kid and given the circumstances at the time 100% right decision. one of my favorite wrestlers to watch. There was one 8th grade local stud (current freshman) who did live with Coach Yost on Signal Mountain the entire winter before and during wrestling season. There was another current Freshman from North Carolina who was put up to make it appear a Tennessee residence. The more you know+++++

Hope your son keeps developing as a wrestler and maybe I will get to watch him in Boone wrestling for App St. Two of my friends I wrestled with in High School sons are at App. One is a Freshman and one just signed.

Mr. Villars,

Let me get this straight.  When you develop “relationships” with all these folks from other clubs and parts of the state, and then they show up at McCallie it is called building from the ground up.  But when a kid from a different club shows up at Baylor- it is bad.  Got it.

The truth of the matter is that McCallie was in a bad spot before you recruited all of your friends to join.  They were losing duals to CCS and turning off the scoreboard during the Baylor-McCallie match.  Now, as I have clearly stated- I commend you for doing the recruiting necessary to rebuild your beloved program.  Hope they gave you coach of the year honors over there last year.

I do stand corrected on the Brayden Ryan comment.  It turns out I had the wrong boarding student in mind.  I had to go back and check the records. It was Jed Pierce.  You know the boarding student you all recruited out of Atlanta who placed as a freshman?  But then you all recruited right over him and he had to sit the bench as a sophomore.  Just no loyalty over there.

The good news is that you are still the team to beat this year.  Father Ryan might get you, but I know you will have them coached up come state tournament.  As for working all summer: you are going to have to give me more details on that.  I follow TN wrestling closely, and I didn’t notice you guys anywhere this offseason. I didn’t see you on the freestyle circuit. Not much of a presence at southeast regionals or at Fargo.  I never see your coaching staff outside of the season.   The teams that seem to support offseason wrestling are Cleveland, Summit, Christian Brothers, and Baylor.  They send large cohorts of kids to Fargo and other offseason tournaments and their entire coaching staff travels with the team.  Maybe you all do this, and I am missing it.

As for your current neurotic fixation, I told you Baylor didn’t put Father Ryan on their schedule this year.  It was never on the schedule the school released back in September.  It is none of my business why. It is also none of your business why.   I assume that Baylor will wrestle them at the state duals, state tournament, and national preps.  How many times should they wrestle the same team/kids in the last month of the season?  Steve Logsdon would never wrestle Baylor and you know what: it wasn’t a big deal. It didn’t kill local wrestling.

It is like arguing with Otis Cambell…

Drama WOW...

Wordy know-it-all Politician vs passionate daddy.

Am I wrong?

Just settle it on the mat, dudes

Very good update!! I was wondering if Father Ryan would get the respect they deserve. They dominated  a tough field at the Johnny Drennan!! Plus you add in the fact that Baylor backed out and refused to wrestle Father Ryan in a regular season dual so that says a lot!
Unfortunately the MBA vs Mccallie and Baylor and Father Ryan vs McCallie and Baylor duals ended up cancelled  due to weather anyway but Baylor had already backed out anyway.

Cleveland is certainly the top dog and rightfully so! Mccallie will get an electric environment and incredible atmosphere next Friday when they wrestle Cleveland. Going to be a fun match and the boys deserve atmospheres like that!!

In my opinion, Baylor is 3rd until they wrestle and Beat Cleveland or Father Ryan. Heck Baylor recruited 3 kids to their high school team this year and may not be done yet. Cleveland has just reloaded, McCallie added to their middle school but nothing to assist the high school yet and they do not have a senior on the team, so 4th is correct.
fun times as the season starts to hit the final stretch.
Thanks for putting together the update.
Good stuff!

Is Baylor good enough now? I assume back-to-back wins tells the story... especially considering they were missing their second best wrestler. A lot of shade was thrown on them by a few on here but the bell tolled.
