Are there 9 private schools here and 1 public?

I know Mt. Pleasant is public are all the rest

Halls and Mt. Pleasant are public, the rest are private schools. Private school domination of the single A classification is a current major concern of Tennessee's rural public schools right now.

 

If I understand correctly, this years state baseball tournament will field eight teams rather than four, as in the past. At least this year, a puclic school might have a chance of making the field.

 

The preseason polls show private schools holding seven of the top eight spots. Remember, this is just a poll. Public school players, you have all season to play your best to get your team in one of those eight tournament slots.

The new system of eight teams in the baseball state tournament is long overdue--some very deserving teams that were in a tough region and would have easily beaten the champion from the other region in a sub-state game have been left out. This is why I'm referring to it as the JCS rule. USJ and JCS play each other EVERY year in the regional final, with USJ winning most years. USJ then basically manhandles the team from Region 8 (although not the case last year with them only beating Halls 4-3) and goes to state. Now, this will ensure that both Jackson private schools get a berth in the state tournament and, what do you know, generate even more money for TSSAA. I swear, the TSSAA is worse than Doug Dickey.

Are ya'll going to be a fairly young team this year?

No, we have 6 seniors, all of them being starters and we only lost 1 person from last year's team. Two sophomores and one junior make up the other three starters.

Another relatively new site for West Tennessee fans is www.wtso.com Like I said, it is new, so show it some support and maybe it will give West TN what Coach T does for Middle!!

I agree. . WTSO is a good site, just needs some support. Looks like in the next six to twelve months it will be rolling. You can never have too many websites promoting high school athletics, so I don't view it as a rival to CoachT, just another great place to visit!!
