Alternate Plan

Okay, I'm now thoroughly confused. Is this stuff written somewhere? If there are 2 teams left in the winners bracket, but they are not the #1 and #2 seeds, do those two teams advance, or do you revert to the regular season? I can think of good arguments for both, but I would hope there is something predetermined in writing so that it does not come down to an individual's decision which will be sure to make one of the teams mad. (We encountered a similar situation a few years ago in travel ball where a national berth was awarded to a local team which had already been eliminated from the tournament.) Is there a written rule which covers this?

Coach VPR, whoever won the tie-breaker for tournament seeding purposes is the second seed, even if it was a coin flip. Fpjunkie, call Bernard Childress at TSSAA and he can tell you exactly where it is written. I don't remember off the top of my head. Sorry.

Talked to Gene with TSSAA he told me that it is up to the coaches if the tournament is wash out. He said it was the only way to do it since some tournament action might finish some may not. His hope is that all games can get in by Sunday. TSSAA says that there is no written rule on how it is to be decided.

chs4life - so what you are saying is that I was right! Just admit it, Weave was right. All the TSSAA bylaws state is that the district members decide who their 2 representatives are to the region tournament. That is why 8AAA basebal can say the regular season district champ gets an automatic berth.

Just admit it, you are *Lucky* that I am right for the "Three Hundred and Fity Tooth time!" :o

With something as important as the first and second berths at stake, how do you leave the decision up to the coaches of the district? It is incredulous to me, that after all of the hard work you put into a season, it could boil down to opinion! I can understand making opinionated decisions over bottom seed teams but the top two? I see why the proverbial "Gray Area" keeps biting us in the rear.

ERA - It won't be a beauty contest. Every coach in the district would have a hard time ever pulling a shenanigan.

I can forsee a couple of scenarios playing out.

1- Regular season #1 & #2

2 - Teams still alive in the winners bracket being the 2 representatives or 3-(Most Likely) Folks busting their rumps to get fields ready and playing doubleheaders until they get a winner on the field.

Speaking from experience, no coach in 8-AAA would ever send a representative to the region that had not earned that right on the field!

I'm not suggesting anyone would send a team not deserving. But why even make it an opinion when it doesn't have to be....for example:

Team A & Team B finish first and second in regular season. :o

Districts get rained out with Team C and Team D in first and second. :o

It's now decision time and the opinion fray can justifiably run amok. :D

I can see even more scenarios that could throw it into full TILT !

Hence, this is not directly the scenario in 8AAA, but it could be in other districts.

That's why I like rules that clearly mark the path so everyone knows going in what to expect and not leave it to a potentially chaotic situation.

    • there will be a couple of teams, that could make some noise
    • Dyersburg may win back to back to back championships. They are going to be hands down the best 3A team. Plus their District/region/sectionals are not very good. They basically just have to make it to region out of a 5 team district that has a few decent teams. South Gibson will be okay but they graduate their best player and there is nobody in the region 7 or region 8 who is going to compete with them.
    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
