ELA, who's we? What team?

And usually I think the offense uses a trick play to catch the defense totally off-guard and for a big gainer or even a TD. Offenses do try to either out-maneuver or out-execute the defense, but sometimes a team just lines up with the defense knowing what's coming and they run their play.

A defense might be looking for something or have seen an earlier play in a game and expect the offense to run the same play. That's usually when a trick play comes in "real handy."

In last year's DII-AA state championship game, Briarcrest scored their first touchdown on a double-reverse pass. It was much needed since the score at the end of regulation was 7-7.

Dyer County used to run a "guard around" play that was basically like a reverse. They would either have a quick guard or put a back in at offensive guard for the play. When the ball was snapped, the offensive line would stalemate and the quarterback would put the ball on the ground beside the guard's foot before coming out from under center. Then the QB would fake a handoff, pass, or fake a fumble and while this had the defense's attention, the guard would pick up the ball and take off around the end, away from the QB's distraction. It was almost like a naked boot. You could count on them running it once or twice EVERY game. We actually practiced against the trick play in our weekly drills. It was dangerous, because it was really a fumble, but if the defense was napping, it could turn into a big play.

Not sure the exact game but University of Kentucky ran the "Quaterback, wtf are you doing, halfback direct"

Lorenzen was under Center and then pulled out and started walking towards teh sideline. The coach was yelling at him. As he approached the sideline a keyword was said and the center snapped the ball to #5 and he took it the distance around the other end. It was nice.

Also, RMS ran the "Wrong Ball" play. The coach was told the quaterback to get the ball from the center b/c it was the wrong ball for the play. the center snaps the ball half speed and the quarterback and the blocking running back went to the side line then turned it up with the rb and a wideout blocking. It was a huge play 40 some yards, but the QB was slow so he got yuked down by a LB
