I would have to say Coach Pat Dyer of Macon County. He has taken a program with no tradition and has them in place to host a state playoff game for the first time since 1978. He has more wins in the previous two years (17 before the final regular season game) than Macon County has won over the last 5 or 6 years combined if not more. He has one of the top defenses in the state, having giving up double digits only once this year and could have had consecutive shutouts if he had kept starters in the games when it was decided at halftime.

I'd have to say Jeff Porter from White House and Kirk Williams from Greenbrier get my vote.

Jeff has built White House up and kept them on the top of the heap or somewhere near it for a few years now. As I read somewhere else, we have gotten pretty spoiled by winning. It's just a fact of life up here.

Kirk plays conservative ball but no fault in that. He has built the Greenbrier team and shown those boys how to play with heart. Two first round playoffs in two straight years proves to me that something's going on on the other side of the hill. :D

I bet no one realizes White House has been in Region 6-4A three years, and if they beat Pearl-Cohn Friday, will be 19-2 in the region in that span, all a step up in class, with two co-championships both lost on tiebreakers, and one second place finish. Quietly consistent.

But when it comes to this year's coach of the year?

After years of losing...gotta be Macon County. Gotta be.

Coach Busey at Houston County is one that a lot of people probably don't kow about.

The progress Houston County has made has been incredible. They went from being shut out by Montgomery Central in week one, to beating East Robertson and Westmoreland (and playing tough against Goodpasture) and qualifying as the number 3 seed in the playoffs.

He should at least the Region 4 2A coach of the year.

    • It was not ACHS at all, they have zero reason to worry about Clinton.  It had to do with a kid (non football player)  that had a charge and appeared in front of the juvenile judge.  The judge saw that the kid was way behind credit wise for his grade and told him to reappear in a month with a plan to graduate.  When the kid reappeared he had more that twice the credits than one month before.  The judge called BS and contacted the school.  That is what started the investigation.  This involves multiple students, but to this point no athletes are involved.
    • I believe the Covington Chargers travel to Trenton Peabody for a scrimmage today? Anyone going to this? Curious how the Chargers will do.
    • Good ole Bradley Zulliger. He was a really good QB @ OR. Fun to watch.  Wore #15 and was like a mini Tebow, with the exception of being right handed. He could take a pounding and keep on ticking. Played with a collapsed lung against Powell that year. Tough as nails.
    • They should be pretty good in year two for Rang.  Replacing most of the offensive production losing Dozier, Hayward and Rembert , but they're are skill kids in place ready for their shot.  I know I say this every year, but the o line should show improvement after two years in Rang and Kevin Day's weight program.  I still would favor West over Plow and OR come November.  The Rebs will have to grow up a bunch between now and then, and will probably take some lumps along the way with that schedule.  But I predict come playoff time they will be ready.   One of their coaches half joked to me that they could go 5-5 regular season and win the state championship.  Ha ha.
