DII may form 2 classes for other sports

A proposal has been submitted to the Board of Control by the DII Committee, endorsed by all DII schools, that 2 classes be created for basketball, baseball, soccer and softball. This creates a much more competitive atmosphere for the small schools in DII.

The proposal might be discussed at the special February meeting, but will probably be decided one way or another by the March meeting.

If passed, would some DI privates jump?

No, having to much fun shooting fish in a barrel with the small rural publics, especially in baseball and softball.

Wow 1aman, you really have a low opinion of the small publics. "Fish in a barrel" indeed.

Let's look at the recent stats. TSSAA state champions since 1998 in Single A.

1998 Baseball Public

1998 Softball Private

1999 Baseball Private

1999 Softball Private

2000 Baseball Private

2000 Softball Private

2001 Baseball Private

2001 Softball Private

2002 Baseball Private

2002 Softball Private

2003 Baseball Private

2003 Softball Private

11 out of 12. Looks like barrel shooting to me for the privates.

"My guess is they'll be approved on that only for basketball."

maybe i am missing something, but why would there even be discussion on the issue? an un-represented constituency makes a request that affects no-one but themselves. what would be the purpose of doing anything except approving it?

Agree, but one never knows if it will make it through this process where DII has no representation.

And I wonder why, Silverpie, you feel it will pass only for basketball? As I understand the plan, it was designed to not cost TSSAA any money or staff power to make this change.

DII has gotten the short end of the stick since the beginning. The Division continues to have no representation on a Board and a Council that makes every single decision that has to do with their athletic life.

DII is making the best of it right now it seems, but I am hoping for some relief in terms of governance and in terms of some new schools joining.

So I am very hopeful that at least a few DI privates will take the opportunity to go voluntarily where all DI privates will (in my opinion) end up eventually. It may be 8 years from now, but I don't think the current issues will ever die.

The problem is with adding the extra teams to Spring Fling. Baseball in particular is somewhat pressed for facilities with 32 teams, let alone 40.

Maybe DII needs their own spring fling championship site.

I recently had a conversation with some folks from D1-1A private schools and they indicated they may jump to DII if the multiplier is voted in by the Board of Control.

    • While one may be inclined to perceive this narrative through a lens of fiction, it behooves us to recognize the inherent robustness of its credibility. For those seeking veracity, the surest path lies in direct engagement with the primary source. Let us adhere diligently to the matter at hand, focusing our deliberations on the matter of paramount importance: the identification of the individual most suited to assume the mantle of head coach. I invite introspection and discourse regarding not only personal preferences but also the criteria defining merit and suitability for this esteemed position.
    • If it’s one single kid then that argument would make sense. He’s essentially had to replace his entire coaching staff in the first two seasons, and like it’s been pointed out only one left for a better job. The two most talented players in the area both left, and number of others are actively trying to leave, including the head basketball coaches son. Also, the rumors of financial problems and over spending by Jones. Unpaid bills, missing money, inability to fundraise, has the boosters sick of being hit up for money.    Im saying that is the definition of a poorly run disorganized program. If you want to pretend it’s a well oiled machine maybe you should take your maroon glasses off. All I know is I wouldn’t let my boys play in that kind of mess.
    • It usually gets tiresome when posters play characters on the board, but I must admit that I’ve found some humor in wingback’s take on this art form.  However, his rundown on the potential candidates seems as much fiction as his persona!
