Terrible Refs

First let me say that I have some good friends who are refs and they do a good job. But to them I say there are some out there making you look bad with their poor example.

The Chattanooga area has some of the worst officials I've ever seen this year. They way some of these guys are calling I'm not sure if they're just that terrible or if they're actually trying to cheat some teams out of games.

And refs, if your skin is so thin that a fan saying, "Why don't you call that on both ends of the floor," causes you to stop the game, call security and have a fan ejected.....then you have no business in this business. The jerk who pulled that last night in Pikeville shouldn't be allowed on a floor again. You are pathetic and a sorry excuse for a ref.

The TSSAA should force the Chattanooga association to observe and review their officials on a regular basis. They aren't doing at all much less as much as some in middle Tennessee or other areas.

I'm sick of watching refs who think people paid to see them. They need to get out of the business. The standards should be raised. If that takes paying more to get better then so be it. But something should be done now. Kids are getting shortchanged by jerks.

They're not just bad in Chattanooga. Last Friday and Saturday was the worst I have ever seen when we played Brentwood and BGA. I think the ones in the BGA game really wanted the Wildcats back in the game. One of them was a little thin-skinned himself; shot me quite a stare after I exclaimed he needed more training. They had been awful all night and I had had enough. Call the game well. If you don't, at least be able to handle the crowd. You could be calling the best game of your life and the crowd will likely still be on ya, that's just part of it.

Well guys not all refs are bad refs. Some are better than others, but, even if they get 100%of the calls right, they will have 50% of the fans mad because they lost the game. One thing people you could do is ref a game , it will shed some light on the game for you. Might help you to appreciate the game more. Just a thought.

This is definitely a dead horse. Unfortunately the school A.D. is the one responsible for hiring referees. Unfortunately the A.D. is sometimes as incompetent as the refs they hire. I have emailed and mailed numerous messages to the TSSAA about this issue. If refs are trying to throw you out and you are not shouting obscenties or being threatning, then they are violating your first amendment right to free speech. Understand this, the next time that you are asked to be quiet or are threatened to be escorted out...claim that they are violating your 1st amendment rights to free speech. LOL

I have refereed many games in my life and have played at most levels (minus NBA), which often helps you ref. It isn't easy, but that is not an excuse. Most refs don't have the courage to make the right call after they have messed up. We need to petition the TSSAA to have an accountability system set up for the officials. We also need a physical fitness routine for them too...maybe if we paid them more we could expect more??? Just a thought.
