Losing coaches

Gopher, I believe that you have come up with you best idea yet, Shutting up. I would be willing to bet that any good head coach would say that he has good assistants. Take the assistants away and lets see how the coach does. 30-45 players, one coach, teaching each position, sounds like a loosing season to me. It sounds like to me that you are one of those great coaches in the stands or at least thats where you should be or maybe you were an assistant who just didnt get credit or maybe you were the head coach that got fired because you couldnt win but yet the school hired your assistant that could do what you never did, WIN. Whatever it is, Great assistants can make a great head coach and sorry assistants can ruin any coach.

OK- I was going to shut up until this post came along. Who had the idea of taking away the assistants? Certainly not me. My point is that a good head coach can get the most out of their assistant coaches. And it doesn't matter how good the assistants are if the head coach can't manage things properly. As for your other point, of course a head coach is going to say he has good assistants, that's part of being a good manager in anything is building people up so that they will want to work hard for you! Finally, you are wrong on all counts of who I am, so keep guessing.

This a question that Knox Central will have to answer this year. Is there success based on Helton and Mac or did it involve the help of Coach Kelly and D.Smith? They also lost Coach Parker and Brown. What is the problem at this highly successful program?

I know Jefferson County and William Blount loose alot, head and asst. Jeff looses meadows and Richie Marsh, now the DC at WB, and i would almost bet they loose current JC DC Jim Hastings as well. WB loose HC ronnie phelps, old DC richard gamble, and possibly OC robert reeves.

A good head coach is worth 4 assistants. I good assistant is one who says "HOW HIGH" when the head coach says "JUMP" A good head coach will have assistants that do what he says. There are two types of peope, leaders and followers. A good assistant knows his role and he follows. Too many assistants try to get attention and backstab the head coach. I think that is what beaver15 was trying to say.

Finally- someone with a real perspective on things. I bet piper is an assistant coach somewhere and realizes his role and doesn't think too much of himself, unlike some other people!!!

I think it is your skin turning yellow, because that is what gopher is--- YELLOW, or as we say in Portland YELLA!! U YELLA BOY! I bet your a weekend head coach of a junior league that likes to boss other parent "assistant" coaches around. Probably about 300 pounds, big burly, bearded guy aren't ya?

Finally someone is getting close to figuring me out. Look just because I coach youth football doesn't make me inferior. Coaching is the same here as it is anywhere. If you just know how to control people, coaches or players, your a better leader. It is to bad some people don't have enough guts to admit that you have to be strong to be in charge! It's OK I'm tough enough to handle the criticism.

Gopher

Are you the coach for the tide in the Canton City League? If you are, then you are full of yourself.

I think it looks ridiculous how you dress in a shirt and tie and your Hound's tooth hat for a junior pro game. You must think you are Bare Bryan Junior.

The way you yell at those 5-6 year olds is sickening. I'm glad you aren't a real teacher. I can't imagine putting someone like you in a classroom of kids.

Look tackle- just because we beat your sorry team 97 straight times don't be jealous. I am actually thinking about becoming a PE teacher just like my idols mark davis and bary gaither. I'll teach kids that we make our own memories of kickball that we can take with us.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
