Melrose Defense

Yea i have to agree with you all, this is the best display of defense that i have ever seen, i  think they give up like 2.4 points per game.  The top defense in the entire state, i just dont understand how a team shut down these offenses.  They played some explosive teams throughout the season.  I cant wait to see how West Tn does this week in play!!!

Of those 22 points, there have been only 2 touchdowns scored against Melrose. It should be an interesting run.

Melrose's defense was apparently spectacular this year.  It will be interesting to see how it stacks up against Maryville's offense, should that matchup materialize.

I'd love to know the modern era (since the beginning of the playoff system) record for regular season defense as well.  Perhaps Earl Nall may have some data.

I can think of at least one regular season defense that allowed fewer points.  There certainly may be more.

I'm hoping for a Maryville-Melrose final...Was looking for it last year too and it didn't happen...I would like to see Melrose play in Memphis but I really don't have the money to rent out a couple of state troopers for bodyguards.. ..I am looking forward to going and seeing Maryville in the semis in Maryville on my way to see the Vols beat the wildcats the next day in Knoxville...So you guys KEEP WINNING !!!!!

You won't need the State Troopers. Come on down and withness a great High School football atmosphere. thumb . I was born and raised in Orange Mound. The reputation as a "bad neighborhood" is overrated.

Melrose brought busload after busload after busload to the Rock last year for JCM-Melrose. There will be a full house Friday. If JCM-Melrose both win, they will be a 2nd round matchup next week at Orange Mound. Last year they met in 3rd round but JCM's loss to Haywood makes them 2nd in region and will meet in 2nd round.

I find it hard to convince mysef the result will be much different than last year.

It's not that bad during gametime...get there early, figure out where you can park and get out quickly, then get out when the game's over.

You'd be fine during the game, just don't stick around afterwards.

To all fans of class 4a football hoping that their team will win the state title, I would like to tell you that there is no chance that any body in class 4a will beat the Melrose Golden Wildcats. No trash talk, just the facts. They have probably the best combination of skill, size, power, and team speed in the state. All this talk about maryville is very silly, they are in no way shape or form in the same league as this football program. As far as the neighborhood goes, the fans there are just like everybody elses, they really do get excited about their football team. You would to if you had the program they did. When we(Crockett County) went there to play in 1997 they were very loud, but generally nice people. I hate to say it but I think that everybody says that it is a rough place to play just because it is a prodominately African-American community. I apologize if anybody is affended by this post but it is just the plain facts. thumb
