I am encouraging all Maryville fans to come on down to Murfreesboro to give the players the support they deserve. I want at least 10,000 Rebel fans down in Murfreesboro. I can promise you one thing right now. Melrose will bring 10,000-15,000 fans to Murfreesboro. I saw them play in 1996,97 and 98. They filled up one side of Vandy stadium those years. They are very loud and their band plays the whole time. I never saw a team have a bigger following than was Melrose has.

Yea that was 2 years ago though, wouldnt it be nice to see Cade Scramble for the game winning TD in the 3rd of 4th OT.  Just a thought.

Yeah...it would be great if I knew we were going to win. I dont like being in the situation where its, make this one play or go home. I might just ___ my pants. Not fun.

I'm not from Melrose, but I'm sure they've seen their fair share of spread offenses.  Remember, inner-city teams have been running the spread for a long time...I figure at least half of the Memphis city teams run some form of spread.

Opperman ... they beat Whitehaven earlier in the season 28-0. Whitehaven has one of the best spread offenses around. I think that Ridegeway, JCM, and White House used some 3 wideout formations during their playoff games against Melrose as well.

Have you Maryville fans read the article on Melrose in your own paper? It's tittled ... 'Melrose savors film session'. Evidently ... the paper interviewed Greg Hardy and Greg Cooper. I think it was probably at the Mr. football award banquet in Nashville. Kudos to your paper doing this research. It gives some more details into the team. I was aware that they, the Melrose team, watched a lot of film ... but 3 to 4 hours a day!!!!! I was shocked to read that. That's what Greg Hardy stated in YOUR paper. Now I see why he is so good ... he's a student of the game. He learns his opponents tendencies. Here is the link. This link is also listed on Coacht.

Check it out for yourself if you haven't read it in your paper today.

I saw those 98 and 96 Melrose teams play. They were very talented. Here is who were on those teams.

Cedrick Wilson  UT

Andre Lott  UT

Kevin Taylor  UT

Kindall Morehead  Bama

David Payne  Bama

Derrick Woods  Bama

Mondre Dickerson  UT

Antoine Lias  Kentucky

Dewayne Robinson  Kentucky

I know that Wilson,Lott,Morehead and Robinson are playing in the NFL.

All of those guys played on the 96 team, with Ced, Andre, and Kevin being seniors. Unbelievable! Maybe best team Melrose has ever had in recent history. Those are just the guys who went to the big schools! David Payne and Antoine Lias didn't qualify acedemically ... they never stepped foot on campus. Kevin Taylor played 1 or 2 years at UT. Derrick Woods played 1 @ Bama.

By position:

Ced was the QB. Andre played CB. Kevin was a WR. Kindall played ... get this ... OT/OLB ... no lie ... 6'-4", 280 lb outside linebacker ... and he DOMINATED. David played OT/DE. Mondre played OT/DE. Antoine played WR/S. Dewayne played DT.

I dont think that anyone is going to score 20 points on Melrose...i know you didnt say that but with 20 being your highest prediction i dont really think thats gonna happen...if maryville scores 15...i think Melrose will score 20-30....GO GOLDEN WILDCATS!!!

I don't think you've seen Maryville. We'll score 20+ on ANYONE. No disrespect to Riverdale, but I think we could score 20 on them. You wildkittens don't understand how great this offensive unit is. There just 20 or 21 points from breaking the school's all time single season scoring mark. We've seen "great" defenses all year, so don't waste your time posting that.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
