Melrose/Maryville 4A Title Game

How would you rate the Melrose/Maryville contest compared to other championship games you have seen?

 

Also, have you seen more physical championship games?

This game has to rank pretty high on the all time great high school championships, I havent been around long enough to say it was the best, but it was the best I have seen. I like games where defensive rule the field.

Both teams did throw deep ... but not often. It was not a wise play to attempt. Both defenses had 2 safties rolled over on each side. In essence ... both teams took away the deep ball. Cade threw one ball deep that was picked off by #8, Fullilove, in spectacular fashion. Likewise, Madison threw one deep that I thought the Maryville DB was going to get an INT on. Going deep was not an option all game, both defenses made sure of it.

This was truly a great game, but i dont know if it was greaterthan the game between jcm and bradley central in 79. 50-48 in 3 ot. that game was voted the best high school game in the country by sports illustrated.

I think the Melrose - Hillsboro games were more exciting.

It was certainly up there. I think the 2002 game between Maryville and Hillsboro might have been alittle more exciting. But, it maybe too close to call. thumb

The 2002 4A State Title game Maryville vs. Hillsboro was the best game I have ever seen in my life, high school, college, or pro.

As a Maryville fan the 2004 Maryville/Melrose game was great. The 2002 Maryville/Hillsboro game was great. Another great Maryville game was the Maryville/Elizabethon 1998 game. Both Central/Maryville games in 2003 were great. Even though Maryville lost the MOWest/Maryville playoff game last year was a great one.

 

The greatest Non/Maryville high school game I ever watched was the Cleveland/Brentwood Academy 4A title game in 1993. 2 awesome teams were playing in that game.It was back and forth.

i liked this game a lot, mainly because we won, but it was a good game. i like offensive showdowns not defenseive. offense is more exciting to me, so im gonna have to go with somedude and say that the 2002 Maryville / Hillsboro game was the most exciting i have seen. lots of offense and trick plays, i loved it.

I was at the 4A Maryville vs. Memphis East game, but I dont remember much of it. I'd assume they both played before this game but I didnt see Melrose.
