Yep no problem. Sad when a non Riverdale fan is more positive than supposed fans.

HARD to be positive when the current Coach keeps 'choking' year after year.

I am hoping for the best this year, but I will not put any money on it happening.

Hopefully someone in East Tn will take care of business so we do not have to go thru our now yearly Maryville 'what Rutherford County team are we going to beat' again!

Question wasn't really intended to be that negative. I believe it was factual but I'm definitely open to being corrected. It was intended to get some posts/discussion on the Riverdale thread.

My earlier post was pointed out that the teams under Aydelott have tended to finish very poorly.  Also wanted to understand if I had missed any positives that might alter that perception.

The logical follow-up question would be why is that happening.  What can be done differently to have the teams finish competitively. I have opinions on that but am interested in hearing the opinions of others.

And yes, one of the home field upsets was because Riverdale's kicking team was never prepared for 'the moment' when they get called on to win a game. If you don't think special teams are important watch some teams that aren't prepared in that area.

Riverdale is one of the top teams in the state. Yet that is not good enough for some. Some are still caught in the glory years and those times have come and gone. The talent is now more evenly dispersed with the opening of schools. Rankin saw it and left. Others should move on too if they can't be realistic and positive about what they have.

OK, realistic and positive. I am sure he will choke again! Facing the pressure of 6A ball is different than 4a ball. Even in 4a he never beat Coach Quarles.

I will say it here as I have said it in a couple other threads. Riverdale will be a better team this year than the ones we are used to seeing. I can't tell you if it is the level of competition is weakening, the coaching and players there are getting that much better or if it is a little of all of them. One of the things that LOD and TDC hit on is the proverbial question as to why they dropped off like they did.

This of course is solely my opinion, but I do have some factual incidents that relate to this however.  That being said, winning begins with pride and respect, You can demand that a player give you respect or you can go earn it. If you earn it, he will spill blood and guts to deliver for you, because he cares and wants to please you.  If you demand respect you have it only when you are present. it leaves with you and so does the element of care. There are tons of former parents and players alike that have endured the belittling statements and continue to do so, but winning starts with a pride in the program that exceeds the ego of the man running it. You cant grow anything when you continually prune the program back. When the alumni from the last 5-6 years don't care nor do their parents what does that tell you?

    • Understand the young thing.  I was one of those.  Barely 17 when I graduated from high school and started college.  But redshirting for athletic purposes isn't doing them any favors, in my opinion.  Life isn't always going to be fair.

    • The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.
    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
