The new "contact" rule will limit how much time teams can practice full-contact during the week and how many consecutive days of contact will be allowed.  The NFHS rule that was passed was that teams can have no more than 30 minutes of "contact" in practice each week, and that no more than two consecutive days of contact will be allowed.   What is undecided at this point is how the TSSAA and coaches will define "contact" in practice.  Depending on what the final say is, it could greatly affect football practice/preseason camps or have little affect at all.  This has been adopted in Texas, and other states as well, where contact is defined as "full-pads, tackling and taking to the ground" , and has had a positive impact in that coaches are more aware now just how much their players are hitting in practice, all while not greatly altering normal practice routines.

Glad my kid is almost done. It will be flag in ten years. And boys won't be allowed to play with toy trucks in elementary school. The wussification of America is turning me into a grouchy old man.

Wait till they start pressing criminal charges for personal fouls.

Best way to minimize head injuries is to do away with facemasks. ;)

That would be the best way to increase facial injuries. I don't completely agree with Dr. Cantu. Teaching kids fundamentals, form tackling and seeing what you hit is a better way along with tweaking rules to decrease injury yet not taking away from the game of football the way it was intended to be played.
