KNOCK OUT!

I am the second baseman that got knocked out...

the whole thing started when our catcher got angry when I didn't cover on a delayed steal. He then preceded to tell us to cover the bag several different occasions as if I didn't know. As the inning ended I told him to shut up and stop trying to show me up. He said something back and then I apparently said something along the lines of "you haven't thrown out many other people all year"(I blacked out not remebering anything after the end of the inning). As I was stooping down to get into the dugout he knocked me out. Next thing I remember is someone handing me a bag of ice and asking if I was ok. I did not even see him punch me. Then after I went to get on deck one inning he acted like he was gonna hit me with a bat(heard from several teammates).

The kid was kicked of the team for anger issues this fall and 3-4 years ago was punished and thrown out of the dugout for his temper. I do not know what is wrong with him but he apologized but told a teammate he was not sorry for it. If you know me and this certain player you would know I have been nothing but nice to him, allowing him to spend the night at my house while he was having family problems. I do not know what his problem is but I do know he has lost one of his friends and supporters because of this...

I am sorry but I had to get that off my chest and this seemed like a good time.

I might not should have insulted his ability to throw people out, but if the same person had told me I cannot field a ground ball or I cannot hit I know that I would not have punched him. I am sorry if what I said was so bad but that was a dumb, immature thing to do.

hmm, a glancing punch that knocked me out and made it where I could hardly eat for the next 2 days... yeah it just glanced right of my face

I know who you are and i have never known you to be the violent type of person. I have known you to be respectful and quiet. Ive played with you on teams a few times and never heard anything negative out of your mouth. Tensions were high of course, because it was a state championship game. Everyone wants everyone to be perfect. It cant happen. You just happened to say the wrong thing to the wrong person. He shouldnt have ever laid a hand on you. When i first read this it made me pretty mad to know that one of my friends had been knocked out by an ill-tempered catcher. ;)

If you supposedly cannot curse on the field, then you certainly cannot hit another player. Winning has become more important, has it not? The 2nd baseman will remember being knocked out by his teammate alot more than the State Championship game. This is ridiculous. I do not care where it happened, how the team was "picked" not to go anywhere, or that this is a "team" or "family" matter. The catcher has no right to hit another person and should have been ejected if not freaking arrested. Quit justifying violence or ignorant behavior because you are hiding behind a sport.

Good post, but you've opened up a can of worms now. If some posters think the behavior is a coach's issue, they're going to love your "arrested" comment. What explanation will they give if the 2nd baseman or the parents press charges for assault?

If it was my child, I would press charges AND if the coach cannot or will not handle issues such as these...I would find someone who would. Lets not forget, that just because this happened on a playing field or arena does not make it right. If he was at work and hit a "team mate" what would happen? And do not give me "they are just kids" bull. They are cursing and drinking and sleeping around. They want to be treated as adults. We have to do our jobs as adults (or parents if you have children) to teach these kids how to control themselves and behave. Just because they hit for power or have a pop time of 1.92, does not make it right. Look at Jose Canseco, Daryl Strawberry, Mike Tyson ect ect ect ect.

So since they won, all should be forgotten? That's a strange take on it. What if they had lost? Would it matter then? This has nothing to do with the game itself. It's those attitudes that make this kind of act okay!

Although I don't agree with what happened in the tournament, I do agree with some of you in saying congrats . I didn't see PF play, but they made it that far. Congrats on a great season andd good luck next year.

This sign was made in response to what a Ripley mom was yelling at the PF coach when he was questioning a call on first base.  A mother off the Ripley team stood up and yelled at the PF coach to 'Sit down and shut up', that there would be alot more players rounding first base before this game was over.  This is also the same 'mother' that was yelling obscenities at some of the PF fans for no reason.

I am just glad that all this mess is over and we can get on with our meager lives!

The sign appeared at the Harpeth vs. PF on Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. I think it was the first game of the tournament. There was no need for a sign like that at anytime. Say Hi to all the Hillbillies back home working at the corn cobb pipe making exhibit at Dollywood.

I would assume that if the catcher and 2nd baseman were walking into the dugout that it must have been between innings, LOL.  It has been stated several times that the umpire witnessed this.  It is irrelevant whether or not an umpire should be looking into the dugout for this kind of incident.  It was seen and it wasn't addressed.  Any umpire that thinks this is conduct that should only be handled by the coaches when it is seen by the crew on the field, regardless of the game situation, needs to turn in his blue jersey.

If blue saw the incident, then he should have tossed the catcher for..................unsportsmanlike conduct? Making a travesty of the game? Where is dugout conduct among teammates addressed in the rulebook? Lot's of umpires want to toss fans too. Where does the umpires jurisdiction end? Field of play? Dugouts included? Stands? Parking lot? I-40 East to Jackson?

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
