The power clean and the squat are the best two movements for a football player. When a player does a power clean, he starts in a stance that can be seen all over the field. Linebackers, DE's, OL/DL, runningbacks, etc. all have a stance with their legs bent, hips low and ready to explode upward.

The power clean is an EXPLOSIVE movement upward. The players hips come forward, legs extend, and they come up on their calves. Now if you take that same scenario and put it on an angle forward, you've just completed a good block or a good hit.

It really is a good lift.

If it is done right.

But it has to be done right...Make sure your not bent over to pick up the weight...Make sure you squat down and pick it up instead of bending over...if you bend over you could seriously injure your back...

Power clean is so helpful because it replicates the exact same body movements on the field. No matter what position, when you hit someone you always get low and shoot your hands and hips into the person. You're basically making the same movements when you hit somebody (correctly) and you power clean. I'm mean what better lift is there to create more explosion and give you power out of you stance?

I believe it aids in building the "I'm better than you", muscle.

You can do squats, bench press, military press, etc...all things that guys do while working out anyway...and get better results. ;)

You power clean fanatics...how often do you see guys grab a 300 lb lineman and lift them over their heads...stop sputtering and just answer the question...

Replicates football...OMG!!!!

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
