I will be glad when Alcoa meets a 7-2a team and I hope it is us, because I don't think they are as good as they think they are!!!

lol I'd love to see Alcoa play a West TN team that thinks they are the best in the country like Milan. After the game Milan or whoever would feel a lot different about Alcoa. I don't think anyone in AA can come within 14 of Alcoa.

Well, I guess you missed Alcoa putting 52 points up on your 7-2A power Huntingdon last year, and trust me, Alcoa's a lot better this year.

It's the playoffs. If you can't compete, go home. In the regular season, especially early in the year I think running the score up on somebody is a little out of control. But, in the playoffs if you can beat someone 65-0 then by God do it. Because that means your next opponent is going to read the paper on Saturday and think "OH MY GOD." Taking the starters out of the game should purely be a circumstancial coaching decision, it has no bearing on what kind of "class" the program has. Like someone else said, it's many of the guys' senior year and they want to play ball. If you've ever played high school sports you know what i'm talking about. You look forward all summer just to put pads on and play EVERY down.

MilanMan - I have seen Alcoa play. They are good. And don't allow any short-sited personal views to cloud your judgement. They have what it takes. Please pretend like they wouldn't put up 35+ on most teams in 2A. LOL

UncleTed - I agree. It isn't the offensive coordinators job to keep the offense from scoring. B)

In regular season you want to keep your starters fresh and healthy for playoffs, but when playoffs come around I wouldn't let up if you can stop it then stop it, if not then you're out of luck and it will have a mental impact on the next team when they know you will come out and relentlessly try to put up 70 points.

I have done nothing but give Alcoa props all year long. I don't appreciate you saying that Maryville fans are classless. I hope Maryville and Alcoa both bring home GOLD FOOTBALLS.

REBELRON,

I have always enjoyed your post. You have always shown the upmost respect to all Blount County teams!

You are the farthest thing from a classless Maryville fan and was NOT the target of my post. ;)

I have the upmost respect for The Maryville Coaches, the program and the players, and likewise hope Maryville and Alcoa repeat as state champions!

Coach Reid is a friend, and I think the comments about him and the program running up the score and being classless was uncalled for.

RebelRon you truly are full of class. I love your posts. Always very supportive, and not just full of negativity. I wish we had a few of you in Tigerland!!! ;)

Fair enough. Sorry I took it that way.

I have watched the Alcoa games on the playbacks. Alcoa could have scored 100 on those last 4 region teams they beat. Everyone of those games Alcoa had 42 or 49 at the half. I don't agree with the running up the score coments either.

In my honest opinion I think Maryville has a great shot of winning the state title. But! Teams like Central,Powell,MOWest,Hillsboro and Melrose will have a lot to say about that. If Alcoa doesn't win state I would be shocked. I think Alcoa is that good.I thought Alcoa was very good even after Maryville beat them badly. Maryville did beat Alcoa without Brandon Warren. I think even if Brandon played Maryville would have still won. I thought Alcoa was really good when they whipped Fulton but they really sold me bigtime when they went to McCallie and whipped them. Not many teams go to McCallie and beat them.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
