Nah...I think most here would rather keep the population as it is. Like I said...our schools struggle to get by...and we are much better off than most. Most people don't want to commute to Nashville from here. Murfreesboro is 20 miles away. We are about 50-60 miles away. Center Hill is in Dekalb County. Maybe they need to advertise. :P Advertising for students here is just not going to happen.

Antwan,

Let me guess: Most people in Smith County do not want growth. They feel that growth will change their way of life for the last 50+ years and will raise their taxes. They would be correct about both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Antwan....you brought this up and you have been proven wrong on this issue, yet you`re basic argument is I didn`t see it.

I could tell you my dog is outside right now (which she is) and you can say she isn`t because you haven`t seen it all you want. It doesn`t change the fact that she is outside.

Like I said earlier in a post. This may not be an issue in Smith County, but public schools do advertise whether you wish to believe it or not.

And yes I was the one who brought this up last year. It was quoted in the Jackson Sun from NS high school that they would probably do some advertising. Just because you live in the sticks and don`t seem to know half of what is going on doesn`t mean it`s not happening. And that`s not meant to be an insult. I don`t know of a lot that goes on in this world either. But I do know that public schools advertise. Your denial of this doesn`t mean it ain`t happening. I tried my best to explain how it is here in Madison County. Yes there is a lot of parent`s that talk to prospective student/athletes into choosing their school. And you and I agree about parents talking. However, it has been stated on here time and time again by the whiners that this is undue pressure and is considered recruiting. My point is that it`s the very same way with public schools. It may not be that way in your neck of the woods, but YOU need to realize that it ain`t like Smith County all over the state. You just need to admit that there are issues out there beyond your beloved county or at least you need to acknowledge that.

It`s the same thing when you continually say that open zones don`t effect 4A and 5A. Yes it does. Just because you can`t see that effect in Smith County, doesn`t mean it doesn`t have an effect. You just don`t live where it makes a difference. Try and be a bit more open minded and listen to what folks say about things. If you lived in madison County you`d know exactly what I`m talking about.

Yeah...Mr. Vondescending...believe it or not I have actually been out of Smith County. I have even lived in a larger area than you live in now. Gee...I've actually seen the sun shine a few times...albeit through pipe. Believe it or not...I have family in Madison County. One was actually on your school board. They somehow dug their way out of the doldrums.

Listen real closely. I have not seen any public school advertise for students. Just because you say they do...does not make it so. Even if they do...that's just as wrong as private schools advertising at a tssaa sponsored event. I did see the private school ads. I did not see public school ads. Am I penetrating that open mind of yours yet? You still haven't told me what the ads said. What did they say?

Antwan..My dog is still in the back yard. Sorry you can`t see that. But that doesn`t make it not true. I`ll let you know when I bring her in.

Like I said earlier....Advertising is good and it makes other schools try to compete. (public or private)

I think you have stated before that Smith County too has open zones. Lets just imagine for an instance that someone donated several million dollars to upgrade Smith County High School. I`m tallking about state of the art technology, drama, band, FFA, auto shop or whatever you study in Smith County. Well word gets out (this is also advertising) as to how great this is a place to send your kid and folks from Gordonsville start going there. Well sooner or later Gordonsville has to do something to maintain their students or they have to go out of business.

I`m all for private or public schools advertising. It happens to promote competion. Competition is a good thing Antwan. Did you know that? I`m sure JCM would like to vote Liberty or Madison out of the county so they wouldn`t have to worry about losing students to those schools like the public schools did with Div.II teams, but does that really promote competition? No JCM has to show that they are worthy of keeping their own zoned students there. I know you can`t comprehend what`s going on here and that`s ok. But the fact still remains that public schools advertise and my dog is still outside.

Nah...actually we both have brand spanking new schools that are relatively equal.

Most of those people would go to school in a cardboard box before they would come over here. You really have no concept. Don't pretend you do.

Another example is Macon County. They have a relatively new high school in Lafayette. Red Boiling Springs is in the same county. Their school was not renovated. They were told to come to Lafayette. They did not and will not. You have no idea.

Again...one more time. Did the public schools advertise for students during the bluecross bowl coverage on tv? What did JCM's ad say? What did Northside's ad say...what did Southside's ad say? What did Union City's ad say? What did Melrose's ad say? You still haven't answered the question. All you can do is make an irrelevant analogy...as usual.

I don't care if private schools advertise until they are blue in the face in the right venue. I know public schools are not going to do the same.

Antwan..i didn`t claim to know what was going on in your neck of the woods. I was just trying to make you understand what was going on here in madison county which it is clear you have no clue. But that doesn`t matter to someone as close minded as you are because you won`t accept someones word for it. So its pretty useless in trying to have a dialogue with a brick wall.

I guarantee I know more about Madison County than you do Smith County. You are the one that has no clue. You won't answer the question...because you have no answer. What word? You haven't said what the ads said. Just answer the question. I just can't see for those "sticks" you so condescendingly referred to.

I never said I saw the Blue Cross Ads Antwan. Why do you keep asking me that. KublahKD saw them and I know him to be reputable poster. I have heard radio spots for the magnet schools here, but what does that matter/? You won`t believe it anyways. So again...why argue with a brick wall?

And once again...I already told you that I don`t know much about Smith County. Apparently you didn`t believe that either. (see why do folks even try to engage in a conversation with you). My limited knowledge comes from what you tell me. And it could easily be true that you know more about Madison County Schools than I know about Smith County schools, BUT....I still know more about Madison County schools and what goes on around here than you do. So if you refuse to listen and learn then there is no point talking to you now is there?

The whole point of this thread was advertisements during the bluecross games.

You admit you did not see them. I did see MBA and DL advertise for students. I did not see any public school do the same. That is what this is about. It is not about advertising in any other venue. The question asked was if public schools did advertise...what did the ads say? All you had to say was that you didn't see them.

Then...somebody that did could answer. Nah...you have to run your mouth about something you think happened...but you don't know. You have to be condescending and say I don't know anything because I haven't been out of the "sticks" and "don't know half of what is going on" as you put it. I believe the exact quote was: "Just because you live in the sticks and don`t seem to know half of what is going on doesn`t mean it`s not happening. And that`s not meant to be an insult." I guess I should have said...just because I think you are an idiot does not make it not so. And that's not meant to be an insult." Afterall...maybe you are not an idiot.

I didn't say I knew more about Madison County schools than you do. I already know you don't know anything about Smith County schools. Why keep trying to make analogies when you don't? Refuse to listen...nah I hear you. I just don't agree with what you are saying. I really could care less if you agree with me.

LOL...Why don`t you just call KublahKD a liar while you are at. You tried to make this a snide thread when you started it. You brought up the fact that I mentioned last year that public schools advertse. You did so on the premise that you didn`t think they did and you have been proven wrong. Your thread sorta blew up in your face. Public schools do adverise Antwan. Maybe they don`t in your neck of the woods, but it does happen. Stick around here and you`ll learn new things every day.

Go back and read the thread again. You have no clue.

1. Without advertisements the television broadcast of the Blue Cross Bowls would have not happened.

2. Ad agencies determine through demographic statistics when it is best for their clients to run ads. Why do you think they advertise Viagra and Levetra during NFL and NASCAR?

3. Privates have to advertise to fill their enrollments. Competition is great for prospective students in the Greater Metro Nashville area.

4. Shouldn't they advertise during events that best reach their target audiences ie prospective students?

Sounds like smart business decisions to me.
