lion08
Been watching that group in 8AAA since visiting for playday before season. Heard every team would be good challenge for AA squad. Also heard you can get hurt playing in the paint with that bunch down there in lower middle tn. Physical inside with all teams.Big girls from Shelbyville and Columbia, Big girl in Lincoln Co. (Hill)Scrappy girls in Franklin Co. (Gulley and Southern) seen names in paper a lot. Better not forget one of the best Senior guards in state at Columbia (Ross) Better quit wishing for Tuesday to get here. Good to see you positive about team though. i agree with you about the tough play in the paint. Even tho i am from Columbia and have seen every game this year i know that u better be ready for a battle. i have known all these girls from me going to school with them and they are very tough. ALex Ross and Rachel Peery can really put up the points in a hurry from outside and Deandrea Bullock isnt far behind. She went 4 for 5 against a VERY tough Shelbyville team the other night. They will play tough off the boards and will come out a running off of a board. they play hard and will not back down from anyone. In my opinion Columbia has a chance at making it to state this yer if they keep playing the way they are now and keep playing hard!!!!!! banjodr
columbia by at least 5. columbia is one of the best teams in the state they should be ranked ahead of shelbyville in my opinion. Now hold on... we don't want to be on anyone's radar just like Harpeth we got to play em 1 at a time and being ranked puts the bulls eye right on your back. Remember last year? The only poll we care about is the last one. We have a tough game coming tomorrow night with all our injuries and everything so I am not sure what we'll get done but it'll be a great game. Shelbyville is going to be ranked as long as they have a pulse, it doesn't matter what the record is. Harpeth knows what I'm talking about... they get shot at every game. Shootmore
42-40 Columbia HArpeth was avg 68 pts a game. They haven't seen any defense all year like they saw tonight. Lateria Owens had 15 pts and 25(yep, that's right) 25 rebounds. Great win for Columbia to go on the road and get!!!

Slube
Great game. Of course Columbia was 10 below their average too. This came down to who controlled the paint, plain and simple. I'm curious as to how many rebounds both teams had. I'm sure Columbia had us by 15. Defense was good on both sides, both teams were taking shots with hands in their faces, a lot of missed shots and plenty of rebounds to be had. Harpeth scrapped very well, I was impressed and pleased with their defensive tenacity. They also got some great second chance shots off of rebounds down the stretch. I lost count as to how many times a player off either team had to pick herself off the floor. The refs let the girls and the boys play tonight. Columbia is athletic and tall, oh yeah, and quick. Their published roster is deceiving, at least the one I saw on either CoachT or the Tennessean (can't remember which I saw), and of course you can't publish quick. A lot of people are going to complain about the no-call on the last gasp shot taken on an inbound play with .4 seconds on the clock, of course they won't mention that Harpeth was able to catch the ball, take a dribble AND get the shot off with only .4 seconds on the clock. The NBA proved that all you can do with .4 seconds is catch and shoot when Derick Fisher hit the game, and series, winner when the Lakers beat the Spurs a few years ago. So I say the foul was probably not called because the home clock keeper was very, very generous with the time. Ultimately it is the referee's own judgment as to whether .4 is enough time to get a shot off. Great game, Harpeth proved to me that they will contend far into the post-season. Great job ladys, no shame in this loss.
ksgovols
Great game tonight! Columbia is the first team that's been able to run with Harpeth. Several lead changes with Harpeth having a shot to win at the buzzer. This was a 'quality loss' if there is such a thing for Harpeth heading into the home stretch. I can believe #31 had 25 rebounds. Central should have fed her the ball all night.
banjodr
Well we just got home from the game. I thought the Lady Lions handled the pressure and student section noise well. We got to hit free throws under pressure. I sense the Harpeth folks were surprised we could keep up with them but that's understandable, typically teams try to keep us out of a transition game. We can run with anybody. Both teams handled the pressure well. Mendenhall had points and worked hard for hers but was forced off balance alot. It was physical as I predicted but that's good for both teams going into tournament time also. Wouldn't mind playing again before the tournament but won't be able. Was wondering about the small spat with the Harpeth fan or two and the Columbia cheerleaders at the end of the boys game....were all the Harpeth administration already gone? Could have been ugly but our staff handled it well. And by the way thanks for the drinks and milkshakes at the bus after the game. I just wish they were in the cups instead of poured all over the bus top to bottom. Nice hospitality. Oh well the Lions Den awaits!
