Maryville Snubbed by PrepXtra top 10

Maryville an enigma this season, but capable of being one of the best teams in the state, was snubbed by PrepXtra's top 10 teams (or at least teams to watch) on Feb 17th,2006.

I would hate to be any team playing them in the district or regionals. They have something to prove and I would not want to be on the receiving end of it.

Individually they have some of the best players in the region and possible some all staters of the future. If they play as a "team" ? , they could be one of the best teams in the state. All I can say is watch out ...... a mad tiger is about to be let out.

All this proves is that the goof balls that report for the paper don't have a glue. They seldom get the records of teams correct among other things and wouldn't know a basketball if it hit them between the eyes. Polls in basketball are worthless. Ignore them. That is another reason they play the games.

I have no real connection to Maryville but I just felt something needed to be said about this...yall are 8-16 so how were yall "snubbed?" Second, that poll is stupid anywayz...Im just wonderin why you believe they are capable of bein one of the best teams in the state when they have lost twice as many games as they have won...???

Maryville isn't 8-16, they are 17-10.

By the way, I don't think Maryville has been snubbed at all. They have been extremely inconsistent, even after they got all of their footballers back on the court. They have a few nice wins ( Oak Ridge, West, Powell) but they are 0-8 against Bearden, Alcoa, William Blount, and Farragut, with several of those games being ugly losses.

They are certainly capable of playing very good basketball and they will get their chance in the upcoming tournaments. If they do well, the respect will come.

Not sure where you are finding your facts, but Maryville is 17-10. If I was Bearden, or any other potential foe in the district tournament, the last team that I would want to play would be Maryville.

The district and region of this area is wide open and it will be interesting to see how Maryville plays, because this team does have something to prove.

PrepXtra is always getting it wrong. Only a couple of days ago, they had a "girls" section writeup. All the descriptions and scores were the boys games. Then in the "boys"section, it had all the girls games. That is just about how good they are at what they do. But, it is better than nothing which used to be the case.

13-4 in the last 17, with a win over Oak Ridge (#1 in their district) and a 2 point loss to Bearden (#1 in district), three loses that could be considered "ugly" but I believe this team is beginning to hit their stride.

I think it gave me heritage instead of Maryville, but I team searched and the team it gave me was 8-16...my mistake though...however, I still believe Maryville is not being snubbed if they are 17-10...Maryville is not that great a team and they are not capable of being one of the best teams in the state...Siegel, Hamilton, & Shelbyville would all murder them...

I don't think that the Bulldogs would mind playing them right now. If White comes back to full strength from his shoulder injury, the Bulldogs will be just fine. With a coach like Mark Blevins, it will be intresting to see how they fare in both district and region tournaments. Good thing for Bearden that they finished 13-1 in the district regular season and have already clinched a spot in the Region Tournament. By the way, I think that Maryville has seen its glory days in football, let's let others enjoy the spot light. I do recall back in 98 that the Rebels had a remendous guard. I think his name was Lollar. That kid could flat out shot the rock and had mad skills. anyone ever know what happened to him? did he go on to play any college ball?

    • I am going to assume you are not a lawyer, and most reasonable lawyers would not say the lawsuit has a zero percent chance in court. I agree with you that a coach has the ability to dismiss anyone from a team. However, Ms. Winfree was never presented with the opportunity to present her witnesses and have them tell the coaches and administrators what they heard. A lawyer could better explain the lawsuit and the grounds to you. Before you start making wild assumptions about the lawsuit, would it be too much to ask that you do a little legal research first? The lawsuit is dealing with due process, loss of property, and defamation.   You can read the lawsuit here: https://bdnewsletter.files.wordpress.com/2024/04/doc-1-complaint-filed-4-18-2024.pdf
    • The administration took the path of backing the coach and whispering to people that the kid was a problem. The reality is that the kid was never a problem on a team or classroom. The player says she has witnessed who back her not saying the f-word.  Why did the coach make that story up and other stories? I am not Sigmund Freud and do not have an answer for the ex=-coach's behavior..
    • I think they have they coach they want close to being done. I guess we will all see how this plays out. I hope the hire a good one. There are some players in the box for the next coach to work with.
    • Going to grundle Troy Fleming?
    • I agree I don't think it will go to trial either, but I feel like that will be because no judge would deem this to warrant a law suit... If the school board settles, they loose and all coaches and schools loose too.
