Anyone know anything about the teams coming out of Region 1?

Unaka is playing Washburn tonight for the Region 1 Championship, depending on the outcome, of this game, and tonights game with Oliver Springs and Harriman in the Region 2 Championship, one of these teams from each region will be playing each other on Friday night.

Does anyone know how well the Region 1 teams match up with OS and Harriman?

Looks like its Washburn @ OS and Harriman @ Unaka

I have no idea how they match up because I have no knowledge on either of the region 2 teams.. however Washburn was pretty weak and region 1 would have been better represented by either Hampton or University High.. OS should have an easy game.. UH vs Harriman could be a barn burner...

Yeah, Oliver Springs will have the easiest sub-state game ever. I wouldn't be surprised if they beat Washburn 30-0. Unaka knocked the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the region (UH and Hampton) out in the district tourny, so Region 1 won't have good representation on the road... Unaka and Harriman ought to be a great game though.... Does anyone have any info on Harriman's ace. How well do they hit?

Harriman has a good ace in Cummings. He throws pretty hard, probably low 80's.

As for their hitting, they didn't impress me to much. Their 1-5 hitters have power, but are mostly dead pull. OS pitcher Blake Leach did a good job of making most of them hit ground balls which ended up being outs. I believe they only had 3 or 4 hits in the game tonight.

Harriman vs. Unaka will be a great game. It was two years ago as was Rockwood at Unaka last year.

If you remember the game from last year, I'd say Cummings throws it a little harder than Payne did from Rockwood although Payne and Cummings are both really tough. Harriman, however, expects to win every time Cummings pitches and that type of confidence never hurts. Cummings had two wins in last year's state tournament. One start and one in relief.

Oliver Springs shutting out Harriman is pretty amazing. Harriman usually rips it pretty good, but tonight Leach had their number. Harriman has three kids that can take it out at Unaka pretty easy and a couple more if they get a good piece of it.

I would like to see OS have an easy time with it, but anything's possible. I remember about five years ago when Rockwood's Robert Gilmore pitched a no-hitter in the substate against University High and lost 3-0. A couple of walks, a hit batter and a dropped fly ball ruinded his night.

He needs to be back home in the Purple & Gold, regardless of if he is HC or not or even if he doesnt coach at all, his presences will improve the environment. But Again, I have no clue if he would even be interested.

Not much shot to win a state title at Macon but could very well be a contender with the talent coming up through the peewee and junior high ranks in TC I hear.
