Best Run Stadiums?

I have questions about how your stadium is run on Friday nights. Who does it right?

I'm looking for things like do you pay your chain crew, announcer and clock keepers? Do you have students running around checking on folks working? Do you have a hospitality room for workers/refs/media? Do you have web hookups in the press box? Do you have stats printed out in the press box at halftime for everyone?

You know, who does it right and what does doing right mean at your school?

DL.

Officials:

1. They have special parking away from the general public. An adult greets the officials @ their parking lot and shows them where to go.

2. Someone finds out who the officials for the Friday evening game will be on Monday and invites them to be at the stadium @ 5:30pm (game time 7:30pm) for a steak dinner that includes all officials, chain crew, stats people, film crew & PA man. This is done in a private room that has been decorated by some of the mothers.

3. Officials have a private locker room with a shower (soap, towels, shampoo, etc... are provided) and anything else they may need. During halftime and after the game sports drinks, water and fruit are available in the locker room for the officials.

4. Police escort to and from the field and to their automobiles after the game. (you can never be to safe in todays society)

5. Chain crew, PA announcer, stats people, etc... are not paid cash but they eat free before the game and are given two free tickets to the football banquet at the end of the season. ($50.00 value)

cbq,

I don't know if you are joking of not. If you are serious about the treatment to the officials and volunteers, then someone needs to write a manual on this. Most places the officials are lucky if they get a bottle of water and a place to park without getting blocked in. What school are you referring to that provides all the extras for the officials?

It is my understanding that Byrnes (South Carolina) and for sure Georgetown Prep (Washington DC) does this. They try to make everyone feel welcome and want to be associated with their program. I have heard that Dickson County and Gallatin use to do something similar 25 years ago but I don't know about today. The football booster clubs feed everyone and takes care of the officials. The football coaches are not responsible for this, it is felt that coaches should coach and someone else will take care of getting things ready.

I would like to say that Lincoln County does a pretty good job of this, good parking, mostly on a paved parking lot, more than 1 ticket booth, (I won't mention who, but there are some schools that only have 1 ticket booth, which means long lines, and some times the fans do not even get in for the start of the game) we have two big concession stands, at each end zone two bathrooms, one at the north endzone, and the other behind the visitor's seating. Not a bad seat in the house, and the press box is an open air press box that sits high above the home side for a perfect view of the field. It has no windows to block your view, and while it can be cold during the winter, if the fans and players and coaches are cold, why shouldn't we be too! But the in the press box you are protected from the rain.

and the beautiful playing field, just like carpet. And while this may seem like a shameless plug for the stadium (and it is) that is also part of the overall experience when an opposing team comes in to visit (The Pit). :thumb:
