4-Region 5

5-Region 6

6-Region 1

7 Region 8

8-Region 7

Do you Agree or Disagree ?

Everyone from east tn will rank regions 1-4 on top while those from the west will have 5-8 among the leaders. As far as overall records and winning percentages:

Region 1 - 30-33 48%

Region 2 - 36-27 57%

Region 3 - 40-42 49%

Region 4 - 35-29 55%

Region 5 - 34-38 47%

Region 6 - 29-34 46%

Region 7 - 41-22 65%

Region 8 - 21-24 47%

Good luck to all teams in the playoffs and may the best team win come December 2nd

Go to any thread that a west Tn person posted on and people can see *although people from west TN are close minded and won't see the difference!* For example go to the best teams in the state for any region. Every single person from the west area says goodpasture and milan are better then Alcoa... bwawawa I'm sorry but if they were better then why haven't they won state?? And then someone said that Lipscomb and Crockett are the top teams... bwawaw I say again Fulton and Catholic are MUCH better then any team west has produced in the past years. IF *and that is a big if* you all win state this year then you can talk, but until then I won't ever pay much attention to you all, sorry that's the truth!!! Earn your respect

Heyy were not close minded just stayin postive and if we are close minded were tlkin bout our on west tn teams not u all ....all the way over there........ i hope to see fulton and catholic team cuz i think u might be in for a suprise this year ....... but the point is no one was tlkin junk but u get on here tryin to stir up stuff so ill defend the west.. if im right crockett is now ranked #1 ... sooo has that got ur panties in a wad???? By the way milan has one state like 3 maybe four times get ur facts straight......o yea i think we got our respect and if u dont respect us u might go away with a big ole L and when that happens u still want be able to face up and respect us cuzzz by readin ur post i see ur big headed and probablly a kid by the way u present urself on here!!!!!!!!! :D Go crockett!!! ;)

Well good point, I see were some posts you all just rep west which is what I would do too!! But there are some posts that are ridiculous too!! I didn't know Crockett is ranked number one I don't really pay attention to the rankings it's kind of like the BCS in college ball.... I never said Milan didn't win state, I am talking about recent years not back in the day *whenever they won state I don't know when they did.* And I guess I will rephrase what I said about the whole respect thing, I respect you all, but not as much as you all give yourselves credit for! I hope you all bring your best to state I want to see these great teams you all talk so much about!

If we do make it to state and nothing happens i promise ull see the teams we tlk about even though i never said they were great .... but it would begood state ball game to see crockett vs fulton as good as crockett has been this year its gonna be a job to beat them....... id would say there as good as the crocket team that went to state in 2001...... teams that were suppose to give us our first L we beat by 3 or more t downs.... anyways good luck to all teams thanks for the credit u do give us we give ourselfs a lot on respect cuz we support our teams and we have proved our selfs this year in the west maybe we can prove it the east to this year!!!!! good luck :D

The question is "In class 3A, which region is the toughest?" Perhaps we should define "toughest?" Is it which region has recently produced the most state championships? Is it which region has the best collective talent? Is it which region has the best coaching staffs? Is it which region collectively plays the toughest out of region schedule....and wins? I don't know what the answer is; however, here are some facts and thoughts.

State Championships:

2001 Austin East. (2-3A)

2002 Ridgeway def. Fulton. (2-3A)

2003 Fulton. (2-3A)

2004 Fulton. (2-3A)

2005 Livingston. (2-3A)

Talent:

Rogan (Fulton UT Commit), Anderson (AE UT Commit), Smith (Catholic UT, ND, Aub, etc ). Fulton has, in addition to Rogan 4-6 kids that have the talent to play at the next level. AE has in addition Anderson 2-3. Catholic has 3-4. Kingston has a couple, and Anderson County and Livingston have maybe 1 each. I am not saying that they are all Top 25 D1 talent. Obviously some are. Rest assured the others are Tier 2 or 3 D1 talent (bottom half big east/mac/sun belt).

Coaching:

There are some new coaches in 2-3A, so TBD on them, but Coatney (Fulton) Graham (AE) and Pemberton (Catholic) can all flat out coach. They don't just have good teams, but good PROGRAMS.

Schedule:

Teams from the region have gone out and played tough non region games @ Alcoa, Tyner, Red Bank, Smith Co., Webb, Brainard, etc., then beat each other up during the region sched. That is why they are all tough come November, and for the last five years straight have been playing the first weekend in Dec.

So, IMHO 2-3A is the toughest followed by 7-3A, 4-3A, and 5-3A.

your way off base here the state championship is coming to west tenn in 3a this year im a covington charger fan and we just lost to crokett county this past friday and they put a whipping on use that we havent seen in several years there the best team i have seen in a long time i belive the toughest region is region 7-3a by far

I definately remember when i played covington in the state championship a few years ago(we wore maroon, but u may not have noticed bc we probably came as a blur to u) I remember very well how the covington fans predicted a victory by 2 or 3 tds. The game was over at halftime, and we pulled the starters during the 3rd quarter...what was the final 36-9? we took a safety at the end of the game for a reason. Until west tennessee wins a big game against the east, i will NOT give them respect(You have to earn respect, it doesnt come free) I can say this bc im not a player...trust me when east plays west its a championship, therefore the players will respect the other team.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
