Riverdale vs. Warren County

Recommended Posts

He was coach of the Pioneers around 1990.

A good coach!

Thanks, that was his name. It escaped me. He was definitely a good coach, and was well-liked by all his players at Central Middle School. He was known for great discipline as well. I like old school coaches that can still get the job done and keep their programs respected behavior-wise thru-out the area.

Barnes was at WC from 86-90. Great coach and a great man. He was old school and did not put up with any BS. Class act...

I wish this matchup would have taken place last year. It would have been nice to see all those Riverdale coaches with the Warren county ties out there coaching against the Pioneers.

A tidbit to throw in for those that criticize Riverdale's schedule:

Riverdale played six playoff teams in the regular season which is the maximum possible with their region schedule. The three non-region foes are all either #1 or #2 seeds in the playoffs. That's really a pretty good schedule.

Klbourne, the original week 1 opponent, finished their season 4-6.

how can you point out something that was almost 30 years ago and expect it to be creditable? that's totally irrelevant

Warren County:

Don't worry about this kid, he is very immature and doesn't know how to read thought out posts. He takes everything he reads with "fear" that you might be trying to "spear" his beloved Riverdale Warriors. I liked the interesting tidbit posted, it did show that Rankin lost his first year to this WC team but then emphasized how much a great coach he became. (Great coach, recruiter same thing right?)

Again, do not worry about this guy.

Good Luck, and best of Luck to Big Todd and Chase. Big Todd should cause somewhat of a ruckus for their tackles as he did when I watched him play in some scrimmages. He might get lost and end up hurting the Pioneers though..

Riverdale by 20+ . WC's defense is pretty electric at times but Scott Thomas and company just appear to get better and better. No need for them to slow down now.

GREAT POINTS ;)

GEEZ.....Rankin was in HS and college in the 70's , tdntn. He wasn't coaching yet. Then he was at Smith County as HC when Coach Barnes was whooping it up and winning in WC. He was not instrumental in that success at WC. At that time football was very important. Then they became known for basketball, baseball, and great bands. I remember watching a game in the late 80's or early 90's and there were more folk in their band than on the football team . In fact, they probably had more in their flag core than on the football team. Yet, Barnes still won games. To my knowledge, Rankin student taught at WC and helped there only one season. He applied there as a coach, and was not hired.

    • Eagleville couldn’t catch up to Jones, he did have his location issues but in that game Eagleville popped up everything and the one hit they did have could have been ruled an error. Jeffcoat was a lot sharper in the beginning of the season last year than the end. ER ran out of pitching and still was in striking distance but none the less the better team one. Last seasons tournament was A LOT more balanced and talented. South Pitts starter is a Lefty who was low 80’s but couldn’t maintain his velo throughout the  outing, their #2 was more impressive last year, we knocked him around this year and his mph was down some. Their #3 isn’t bad neither, throws a lot of strikes and sits high 70’s.
    • He actually had a really solid spring.  I could see him getting some backup snaps on offense and be a regular on special teams.  Really athletic kid who can run.
    • Heard Seq has gotten a lot stronger this off season. Can’t wait to see how the boys do this year
