The Powell game was wild! An awesome game to watch. Throp is an excellent player and I feel he could have done a lot more to hurt Powell. He started off HOT but then never did too much scoring after the start. I think Powell is fortunate he didnt do more than he did.

Powell is goin state - it just sounds weird saying it. It's been almost 20 years since Powell boys have gone state, and being from Powell and having played their myself, I know what a huge deal it is to go (even if they dont make any noise). After doin some research on Oakland, they seem to have a good guard in Allen and the 31-3 record speaks for itself. The paper said they beat RedBank 92-51 in their sectional. They sound like a great team but Powell does have a chance to win in my mind.

QUOTE(maroonandgrey @ Mar 5 2007 - 10:39 PM) 826401391[/snapback]I know! I wanted to but had some things already happening in town...didn't get to hear it either. But sounds like JT (#20) had a great game. Not sure if he was going head-to-head with #55. Hey maybe your friend of a friend of a friend of the team can get me a copy of the game tape....I'm sure there won't be any footage on the news /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> . Hate I missed the last game of some great seniors.

If you had been listening to the game on 1320 WGOC ( old WKIN) you would have missed parts of the game including the last 40 seconds when DB had the ball to tie. WGOC lost the signal, listeners had to switch to WKPT. Not only did they lose signal at the most important part, they played commercials over top of Taylor doing the game. Anybody know what is up with Citadel??? It is like they dont want to cover DB sports. At the South they had Taylor up top and gave WXMS the best seat. Personally, I would choose nails on a chalkboard over those guys in the morning on WXMS.

Not sure the deal. I can't pick up 1320 where I live after they cut power so I have tried to connect via intellithought for the internet stream but haven't been able to connect for the last few games. I noticed Tom is no longer on the morning monster stuff and is back on 1320 in the morning. I agree though, Tom has won many awards...not sure if the other guys have /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I was at the Science Hill Maryville game and since no one has brought this up, in true Cap1 fashion…I will! Science Hill played terrible. Post play was all but nonexistent for the Toppers. Maryville’s guards (great ball handlers by the way) made their move off the dribble and once past the initial defender they went uncontested to the basket. This happened all night, time after time and no adjustments where made to stop it (that I could tell). If they would have come out like this against the Vikings we wouldn’t be talking about the Hilltoppers right now. With that said I have to also say that the referees (or should I say referee) decided this game very early for Science Hill with two cheep fouls on Omar in the opening minutes of the game(calles by the same ref I might add). You can say “that’s the way the ball bounces all you want” but I for one know that those early fouls changed the tempo for the Toppers and so does that ref /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" !!

On the other hand…Maryville is big and strong (almost every player on the team) and with Omar being crippled with cheap fouls, they outplayed the toppers in every area of the game last night almost scoring at will! They are a good team and I wish them luck in the Boro…and my post is not meant to take away the glory of a victory that they without a doubt earned!! My point is that these officials literally dictate these games with there inconsistent calls...I just feel that especially at this level (State Playoffs and Sectionals) they should be closer governed and held accountable for blatantly bad and inconsistent calls. One question…I have always been under the impression that when the ball bounces off the top of the backboard that it is out of play…what is the rule on this? It’s a good thing that there is no video reviews of the officials’ calls at this level…it would take a couple of days to play one game. Good luck to the Red Rebels…#50 is a beast and #2 is much quicker than he looks and he reminds me of the #20 (Throp) from DB that everybody is talking about…he’s a gamer!!

The ball can actually roll from one end of the backboard all the way down the top to the otherside of it and not be out of bounds. It is OOB if it hits the supports that hold the goal up or goes over the back of the backboard, but it is allowed to hit the top....

Congrats to Powell and Maryville...good luck

Sounds like Bruce Pearl may need to take a look at the UT football practices. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

You can look at the athletes from this team and see that A LOT of hard work and dedication to their craft (football or basketball). That along with the mind set that “we are better than you” seems to be a big part of that schools success. Not as much raw talent and athletic ability that you would expect to see from a team with that much success. I have to admit that I…along with many sitting around me thought that this would be a stroll in the park for the Toppers from just seeing Maryville during warm-ups. But soon after the jump ball I for one knew the game was on. Something tells me that we didn’t get to see #5 on top of his game last night.

    • Fortuitously encountering Clint amidst the ambience of Goodyear this morning sparked an impromptu yet intellectually stimulating conversation, wherein we engaged in a rigorous assessment of prospective candidates for the esteemed role of head football coach. Our discourse, characterized by its spontaneity and depth, led to the formulation of astute observations and discerning judgments regarding the suitability of various individuals for this pivotal position. Allow me to elucidate the fruits of our collaborative contemplation: This commentary endeavors to offer a discerning articulation of my subjective viewpoint, emphasizing a conscientious commitment to maintaining impartiality and refraining from any semblance of derogation directed towards individuals.  Those who possess meritorious qualifications for the esteemed head coaching role, delineated without hierarchical precedence, include: Rennard Woodmore, an esteemed alumnus of the Yellow Jackets, presents a magnificent pedigree, having held prominent positions in head coaching capacities across various regions. His pivotal role as a coordinator for teams contending for state championships further enhances his stature in the realm of football leadership. Kyle Gregory, erstwhile adorned in the resplendent gold insignia, though lacking direct head coaching experience, brings to the fore his invaluable insights garnered as a coordinator for esteemed teams, showcasing an acute understanding of the requisites for triumph whilst attired in the esteemed purple and gold regalia. Steven Jackson, whose contributions transcended mere clipboard duties under the tutelage of Kevin Creasy, emerges as an exceptional candidate for Trousdale County. His prior tenure and triumphs as an assistant coach underscore his suitability for the role. The sole drawback lies in his lack of affiliation with Trousdale County as an alumnus. Brandon Eden's extensive tenure within the chronicles of Trousdale County football, spanning a significant portion of its State Championships, coupled with his successful stints as a coordinator across diverse locales, underscores his candidacy despite a dearth of direct head coaching experience at the high school level. Davy Cothron, while beset by a modest playing career, has emerged as a luminary in offensive strategy, drawing parallels to the transformative appointment of Barker in 2015, thereby warranting consideration for his proven acumen in this realm. Joshua Hackett, notwithstanding his non-alumnus status, has left an indelible imprint across Middle Tennessee, distinguished by his adept curation of formidable defensive units as a coordinator at Watertown, albeit without direct head coaching experience. Kevin Creasy, the epitome of coaching prowess, merits an offer irrespective of his current inclinations, his unparalleled capacity to secure victories transcending geographical and institutional bounds, potentially extending to a role as Director of Schools should it align with his aspirations. Conversely, individuals who have not demonstrably earned the mantle of head coaching, enumerated without sequential precedence, encompass: Brad Waggoner David Barker Paul Pitts Jeremy Pruitt Clint Satterfield Robbie Atwood Wesley Satterfield Ben Johnson BJ West Whom do you all deem most fitting to assume the mantle of the next coach, and what rationale informs your choice? Conversely, whom do you perceive as ill-suited for the role, and what underpins your reasoning for their exclusion?
