Bearden vs Smyrna

Caught it in the air and came down with it? How about caught it in the air got layed the ###### out, flipped, dropped the ball, and bearden came up with it. But the refs couldn't get enough of that home cooking and had to let smyrna win. On a more positive note, I thought smyrna played a heck of a game and did what no one has been able to do this year, shut down torey works. I don't think that anyone who was there could deny that the bearden team had the most heart. They never gave up down 17 0 and should have came back and won. And the cj gunn TD catch that got called back, I was talking to mark packer and he said his camera guy rolled back the tape and he was clearly in, more home cooking. The hardest thing I have had to do all season as a senior fan was go out on the field and physically pick up the players who gave every thing they had and came up short. All we could do was tell them that we were proud of them and they had a great year. This will be as far as bearden will go for a while. All said, I hope those refs never do another game again in their lives.

again, you keep telling yourself whatever you need to so you can sleep at night. there was no "home cooking". are you really dumb enough to believe that? you have got to be a smarter person than that. i've already said everyone has their own opinion. if "ifs and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a merry christmas." the players did fight out a great game. quit ruining the great season they had.

I'm not a Bearden or Smyrna fan. I just want to know when the TSSAA is going to start to hold Refs accountable for the sloppy and sometimes obvious biased play calling. These young men deserve better. The fans pay money to go to these games and they deserve better. What can we as fans and supporters do to make a change for next year?

hey topgun!! i saw the 2nd onsides kick replayed from a knox area tv station (was told i cant say which one cause my buddy prob shouldnt have had me there in their spaces letting me view the replay on their editing equip-- not gonna throw him under a bus) but any who... it was a fumble bottom line, but i saw it in slow motion over multiple replays. i wasnt at the game so who knows who won the officiating battle. but from what ive heard it was HORRIBLE BOTH WAYS. you are right the kids deserve better.... to make it that far and have bad officiating is sick.

So you think the refs would have made the same bs calls if the game was at a neutral site? I sure don't. Going to smyrna was like going to the bush league. Whoever said something about the band playing the whole game was exactly right. Our principal said that there are rules against it, and our band wanted to do it right back to them but he said no because we had to show a little class. Class-bearden has it, smyrna obviously doesn't

This just proves that you can't play '5 minutes of football' and win. Bearden you played a great 5 minutes offensively, and a great defense game in the 2nd half. Smyrna, well they played all but 5 minutes on defense, and got conservative. A lot of things could've gone different, the only call is the onsides kick that MIGHT have made a difference.

I remember Shaq saying 'One lucky shot deserves another one'

well if you REALLY believe that we didn't come up with the ball, watch the film and look at the QB's decision to throw to Hagar's and Rod's side..then he lucks out and they tip it and run into each other, how lucky is that? Say we get the ball their, Bearden uses the time-outs to conserve more clock that COMPLETELY changes the game. Ya'll got a lucky break, and some would say we got a lucky break. Either way Smyrna is in the 5a State Championship.

Good season Bearden.

There is no TSSAA rule that would prohibit the band from playing the entire game, pre-game, post-game, or into the parking lot (Just Ask Blackman).

AND, there is a TSSAA official in the press box during the game.

BTW, the referees were not from Middle Tennessee. More than likely they were from the Western part of the state. You don't even have to go to the game to know that fact.

Get your facts straight, and it will make your understanding of the game and the outcome better.

thanks for answering my question. you are dumb enough to think there was home cooking. they were neutral refs from an association neither of our teams use. but hey, whatever works for you. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

This shot was taken after the right foot had already comedown inbounds. Notice where he is looking. Unless he caught the ball with the eyes in the back of his head...this is not the right photo to judge the call.

both feet have to land inbounds not just one

That freeze frame clearly shows the ball coming out before he hit the ground....there is no doubt in my mind that had the correct call been made, Bearden would be going to the boro next week. what a shame...

even if it came out he is on the oob line..the ball would have rolled out...aka smyrnas ball

    • Yeah, we came up short. I remember we threw a ball over the middle to #5 Guymon? and he came up short of the sticks. Gave em he&& for a bit though.
    • Doe dee doe doe…..hmmmmmmm one of those players can run faster than my lawnmower when I put it in 5th gear turbo.  You can bet the lawnmower on that.
    • Yeah I am on board and plan on coming down from the Ridge for some home games, great Friday night atmosphere there.  I'm really hoping SC can get them back going and have some success for those fans and community.
    • Yep I was field level on the scoreboard end throwing ball with Benny when we had that brief lead. Everybody got very excited but it was short lived as Murvil regrouped and went into machine mode. But yeah,  that hit sounded like the crack of a black powder rifle being fire.  I believe Dozier took one like that as a Soph up at Greeneville after on olay block.
    • Ole Benny boy lol. I forgot about Harder. He was tough as crap. He graduated in ‘09. I went to the OR/Maryville game that year (great game, btw) and he collided with Jacob West (I think was his name) and you could hear it clearly at the top of the visitor bleachers. Man, it was a stick. He could lay some wood son. All those guys were tough, Elliott included.
