Old Pirate heard this story long ago and only now was reminded of it. Coach Don Grider and his band of pirates had won their friday night game when his 1st son was born. The thought "victory night" turned into Victory Nye Grider.

I have to agree with STATECHAMPMOM on this post. As a former Marion County player and Coach, we too heard all the rumors how we were somehow "cheating" to keep our program so strong in the 80's and 90's. The truth is we play some pretty darn good football in this county and have backed that up time and time again. Between South Pitt and Marion, this community loves their programs and work hard to instill a sense of pride in each generation. There are no steroids involved unless you count the natural stimulant to succeed. Goodluck Pirates. Make the COUNTY proud !!!!

 

Old Pirate says thanks Old Warrior for the response. SP and Jasper have always been like two bothers fighting over the last piece of bread. That said, both have always had respect for each other and generally enjoy rattling each other's cage. This whole valley can/has repeatly stood tall all over the state about the great football tradition found here.

Our former coach/principal and a former warrior/vol often referred to a friday night win as bringing home the bacon.

OP says valley fans will turn out and support this years county/valley state title contender and bring the bacon "back home" to the valley.

Naw..win or lose we will come home...To start working on next year's visit to the Boro. We want another Gold ball to add to the other ones and if the worse happens we have other Silver balls that need the company. We have been on both sides of the equation.

Ole Pujo says, he does do his homework,ole Pujo say Hampton was a 2 td underdog and Gordonsville was a 3 td underdog. These ratings get unbelievably good this time of year. They did miss the Friendship game pretty badly. They were also very close on the Trousdale game. Ole Pujo says ,he don't care if anyone thinks they are right or not, ole Pujo has learned this over the years .

 

Dang it Pujo, Old Pirate says you're starting to sound like this old pirate. OP has an excuse for the third person speech. Everytime OP takes a lick from one of those lodge skillets it's easy to think OP is a third person.

I've seen some posts about SP's kicking game. As far as I know they haven't attempted a field goal all year, and they haven't had to punt much, so they haven't had much practice, but their kicker is decent at extra points, they've had plenty of practice at that.

 

I don't think they have attempted a field goal since Mike Jackson kicked in 1999. And I believe that was the first time they kicked a field goal since Clint Smith kicked 1 in 1990. So as things like that go, we are not due another field goal for another 2 years at least.
