Yes, I cheered and was also in that class, but I skipped my Sr. year. I think I have you figured out. Did you win "least changed" at our 10 year reunion?

Yes, that would be me. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Sorry it took so long to reply. Hope you're doing well.

I just really enjoyed watching this game last Friday. I saw many true Living Legends being made last week. SP had at least 2 or 3 players achieve legend status. I wasn't that impressed with Mckenzie though. It appeared to me that South Pittsburg's living legend coach was just toying with that old lad. Maybe I am wrong, but that is the way it appeared. He appeared to be one step ahead of him the entire game. Congratulations again to the young lads from South Pittsburg on a terrific season.

We noticed /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> . We had a feeling the return game would be a plus for us. The gunners were your one bright spot...they really got down the field... so we took a chance to make those guys less effective and it paid off big

Tell them they have nothing to hang their heads about...we had an exceptional team this year. We have 3 of those Silver ones we are pretty proud of. Not many teams have one of those

I agree...Smyrna was awesome

Yeah, some of us spent the weekend kinda picking parents and players up and getting them back moving again. But, the kids hit the weight room again today to get ready for next season. Likely we'll be doing some rebuilding for a season or two here unless I miss my bet. Got a lot of shoes to fill for now. We've got some getting ready for baseball season and a few trying to iron out what school they want to play Saturday ball at next season. We have 3-4 that will prolly make that move soon on paper.

For a fact, the town is proud of that Silver Ball. You might know that when we finally made it to the show we'd run into one of the (if not the)best class A teams to ever do this thing!!!! Ya'll are definitely deserving of the Gold this year!!!

Just for the record, South Pittsburg has been a class act this past week and it was a lot of fun talking with ya'll through all this. We had a whale of a crowd at our game from both towns. It was special overall.

I counted it up this afternoon and only 28 schools have a class A Silver Ball. 3 schools have 3 of them (including ya'll); 5 schools have 2 of them and 19 schools have 1 as of right now. So you are right, not just a lot of 'em out there in different trophy cases. Guess I'll have to be going out to the school sometime this week to check ours out a little better. Congrats on a great season.

I will have to respectfully disagree w/ you here b/c I believe both Alcoa and Fulton has more or equal speed than SP and DL and GPs lines would be much harder to have success against than what SP had faced. Its like I said, not to put SP down at all but I watched everyone of those games Friday and Sat. and could clearly see a difference from class to class. Now having said that, I believe SP could be a final 4 team in both 2A and 3A.....

Now I know that unapproved website.com is not always accurate but here are their projectins just for the fun of it

Alcoa (TN) 38, South Pittsburg (TN) 27

South Pittsburg (TN) 35, Goodpasture Christian (Madison, TN) 31

Lipscomb (Nashville, TN) 28, South Pittsburg (TN) 27

Fulton (Knoxville, TN) 31, South Pittsburg (TN) 21

Smyrna (TN) 40, South Pittsburg (TN) 21

Maryville (TN) 38, South Pittsburg (TN) 20

What the heck

Maryville (TN) 27, Smyrna (TN) 24

I dont agree w/ all of these but it is fun to mess around w/ none the less.....

Only losing 18 points to Maryville...I could live with that /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

E-mail me at lmeadows@ahroberts.com.

Again, way to go Pirates! I have to commend the city of S. Pitt on the community support! As I drove through there on my visit yesterday I thought it looked more like Halloween than Christmas with all the orange & black! I even saw some women on the side of the road selling state champions hoodies. Sure wish I would've had time to stop & get one! Where else could I get one? I may have family coming up for Christmas & I could get them to bring me one.

The Quarterback Club is in process of getting "STATE CHAMP" shirts in as we speak. Not sure when they will be in. I will let you know when they are here. If you noticed any of the black T-shirts some folks had on Friday, we will be ordering more of those, only difference will be on the back of the shirt, changing 2007 State Finalist to State Champions. There will be another State Champion design also. Just check back here on CoachT, I will post when they are on sale.

Kev...I believe we could beat 3 of the 4 of the 2A-3A teams in the Boro and give Alcoa all they wanted. I just don't see where their talent was that much above ours this year. Now the 4A and 5A teams were just too big for us to have any success. We have an exceptional group of athletes this year

Correct, we do have an exceptional group of athletes. Appears that may continue for the next few years also. I also think we could hold our own with some of the other teams this past weekend but we do not have to do that to prove that we are #1. SP's program has always been top notch, will continue to be. This thread has been fun to watch, I think the McKenzie fans are great and the Rebel fans should be proud of what was accomplished this year. I look to see them in the future. I think we will also be around for the next few years!!!

CONGRATULATIONS to the Pirates, I expect the seniors to excel in whatever they chose to persue after graduation and the underclassmen to get to work to continue the Pirate tradition. COACHES....you are the best, we appreciate your hard work and the time you spend to help our kids excel. To our community...THANK YOU for the support, let's don't let up, we also have other sports that we are proud of that we must continue to support. We are looking forward to the completion of our new Athletic Administration Building and the return of our basketball and volleyball programs to "The Hill", so don't let up.

I really enjoyed this year in Pirate Land and look forward to many more good years. I would like to thank every alumni and fan that has stood behind the Pirate program for so many years. The benefits of what you can reap really came to life this year with a great group of young men that took us to the promise land [the elite of 1a] My hats off to all the coaches and staff for molding these boys into men! This school means so much to my family and me. Lets keep the tradition rolling!

Thank you so much! I saw the shirts some had on at the game Friday. Will the ones that the QB club has coming be different? If so, what will they look like? I'll keep checking back here.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
