bighitter08
Nice to see Hammer and Sonny both in the "90's Club". That would be a match up of epic porportions if they faced eachother. It'd be safe to say there wouldn't be many hits in that game.. This is definitely the best observation and point made that i have seen on here. I am not sure if it would be possible with the way the brackets play out but if these two teams meet in the state finals or any game in the tournament for that matter and these two guys are facing each other it is safe to say that wherever you are from you should make the drive to see that game because it would be probably the best pitchers battle in the history of high school baseball. Live4FridayNite615
Once again performance doesn't lie. Sonny Gray pitched three innings against Oakland today giving up 0 runs 1 hit and his fastball was consistently 92-95mph. He was down in a count once 3-0 and on the next pitch threw a curve for strike one. He came back and struck that guy out. He has great command and can throw any pitch on any count

Ryan McPherson pitching for Lexington , threw 3 innnings of 0 runs 0 hits against a pretty strong offense . No one had a gun on him but his fastball was straight smoke , had a little control problem when he dropped the curveball in , but its still early . LHS should have a pretty strong bullpen with Keck, Rich and others .

lexsportsfan
Lexington hasn't even had a scrimmage yet. When would Ryan have pitched for us? Practice against 2nd and 3rd string.

bighitter08
3-0 curve? interesting pitch call. Well...if its 3-0 and its a good hitter...why would you throw a fastball? That is what he is expecting. If he has the green light he will drill it no matter how hard its coming. So, with a curve on 3-0, that throws him off guard and has him guessing the rest of the at bat. I am not trying to sound like a jerk i was just giving you an explanation for the 3-0 curve call.
Live4FridayNite615
3-0 curve? interesting pitch call. The pitchers were calling there own pitches in that game. Sonny is very smart and knows how to pitch to batters. He has great control also so he was just showing that even if he does get down 3-0 (which usually doesn't happened) he can still come back with ANY pitch. If a pitcher can't do that it is a huge weakness. From the offensive side though, if you don't hit a double off the wall or better you have no reason to swing at a 3-0 pitch. In baseball you play odds, and when they are in your favor you take them. 3-0 is a take in any situation no questions asked. A 3-0 curve doesn't do much other than give a good hitter ( a smart hitter is taking there) a good look at your curve.

My mistake ,,thought those were starters at bat ,,, not as shocking knowing it was 2nd ,3rd stringers
rMcPherson24
Gant is probably the smartest pitcher I've seen around West Tenn..not overwhelming gas but impressive and great junk..more importantly he knows when to throw it..sonny gray is obviously extremely good too
