MBA vs Hillsboro

Unfortunately, and for reasons I don't completely understand, this game will not be televised at all. Hillsboro-Stratford was televised, but Hillsboro-MBA won't just seems like an odd choice to me.

However, they wisely chose Hillsboro-Maplewood next week as the Thursday game next week as it should be another good one.

The MBA website has a link to the streaming media of the game. It has the MBA commentators, but they're not bad.

Tonight represented everything good about HS football.

Hats off to both teams on a hard fought neighborhood game played the way it should be played.

These were two good teams that should play for the title in their respective classifications. For all of us that like to bicker about public/private, these were two evenly matched teams. There were some serious hits tonight on both sides of the ball. #3 for the Burros is the real deal. There was another receiver/back that was impressive as well; he scored on a screen in the third.

MBA was not as powerful as what I was expecting. There was not a lot of push up front; I saw the big tackle get a good pancake about 15 yards downfield once, but typically it seemed to be more about engaging and staying engaged. Hillsboro was quick and filled nicely against the run. Actually, both D-lines seemed to play well and dictate the pace. MBA placed a lot of pressure on the QB early, but the QB got rid of the ball quicker in the 2nd half.

I hated that either team had to lose tonight. I was very proud of both programs.

Hats off to Hillsboro, they never quit. I thought we would own the 4th quarter the way we pushed Hillsboro's defense around early. MBA should have been up 28-0 early. Hillsboro fought back and made it a game in the 4th quarter. That quarterback is a warrior, nice arm too. Both teams had guys cramping up, I hate to see that but it was a was humid night.

I will be interested in asking Coach McGugin on Tuesday if the after watching the film if this game was as badly officiated as it appeared watching it from the stands. I'm still not sure that Hillsboro didn't get 4 time outs in the 1st half. The clock didn't work in the first half, and the officials seemed lost about half the time. I'm not sure that Eric Gordon was in bounds on the first touchdown, and there was a long pass on one of Hillsboro's drives in the 4th quarter that was ruled complete that clearly skipped off the ground. Then when Hillsboro got the ball back with about a minute to go in the game they made a first down and the clock never stopped. They probably lost 20 or 30 seconds there. The guy with the down marker looked like he had never done it before and was lost most of the night. I hate to see officials screw up what other wise was a great game. I hope MBA and Hillsboro can renew the contract. I would love to see them play every year. Who knows, some of the other "powerhouses" around the state might decide to schedule some tough non-region games. Are you listening Maryville and Ensworth?

Once again congratulations to Hillsboro for a tough, tough ballgame. Good luck the rest of the season.

    • Hope the catcher on baseball team come back out and play's football . He didn't play last year if I remember but I don't remember much after that wreck anyways.. But he did play his freshman and soph years and I thought was a very good player. He's put on some size now, so I'm hoping he's thinking about playing again..
    • Pirates are young this year.  Gordy can sleep on them.
    • They’ll get it worked out eventually.Farragut is too good of a program to be down for long. As an OR fan, I can’t really say I’m too distraught about it though.
    • I didn’t even see that until you said something, but I don’t think it’s that bad. Yes, the coaches can’t get along with each other. But I don’t think they’re openly taking shots at each other right in front of the parents. If they are, that’s pitiful though, that’s really pitiful. I sure hope they’re not, but yeah, I’ve heard the same thing from players over at Farragut getting fed up, and I feel as though what the coaching staff has been trying to keep under the prying eyes of the parents is now out on full display.
    • and there is definitely a reason for that—more than just Catholic recruiting.
