Dobyns Bennett Non-Conference Scheduling of the Future

Talking scheduling on the Jefferson Co. @ Dobyns Bennett thread has wet my appetite for the future. I'm interested on what those of us have heard on the rumor mill concerning non-conference games against the Indians. If you claim to know some information, please try to cite your sources.

I have personally heard from those close to the program that the Indians would like to schedule Jefferson Co. and Sevier Co., while also dropping Elizabethon for the next two year home/away contract cycle.

I personally would believe that Dobyns Bennett and Oak Ridge will keep their rivalry alive. Does anybody know more?

Also, months ago there was a response to the new reclassification system on tricitiessports.com with quotes from Coach Clark stating that the athletic department has been contacting schools, both public and private, at distances far beyond Knoxville. Does anyone have new or specific information?

I would personally like to see a game scheduled with Cookeville, with the potential matchup in Cookeville being played at Tennessee Tech. I think the people in Cookeville would appreciate and accomodate the Indians, the whole band, cheerleaders, spirit shakers, and exodus of traveling fans. What do Cookeville fans think?

If I understand the likely reclassifications, the Indians must play:

THS

South

Science Hill

Boone

Crockett

Volunteer

others ?

Certainly, Betsy will drop as they and North are big beneficiaries of the reclassification.

I would assume D-B would want to keep Sevier Co, Jeff Co, and OR. That would give them one big out of conference game. But I would not preclude the Indians scheduling other closer teams like M-East, M-West, or

G'ville. Also Halls might be an option. In this, as in a lot of things, the band will probably decide.

Out of Oak Ridge... I've heard they want to drop DB because of travel expenses, and, like everyone else pick up Maryville. I guess so we can get a good butt whipping, and keep Farragut. Really hate to hear that most of us like playing you all. Good gate also.

Oak Ridge should see a drop in travel costs due to the conference realignments (no more required trips to Maryville (William Blount/Heritage), Athens (McMinn Co.), Cleveland (Bradley Central), or Chattanooga (Soddy Daisy/Ooltewah)). Hopefully that will allow for DB and Oak Ridge to continue the tradition.

Skunk, if you can, try to drag something concrete out of him. I know he doesn't 'say too much' when it comes to things that aren't set in stone, haha. I appreciate the information.

It does break a grown mans heart to hear that Oak Ridge may not be on the schedule in the coming years. Young though I may be, to me, the Oak Ridge game in Week 3 is as much of a tradition as Alabama and Tennessee playing in mid-October. I digress. /sleep.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="-_-" border="0" alt="sleep.gif" />

If not Oak Ridge, thus leaving two open non-conference games, I pray that Athletic Director Cary Daniels is on the phone to every quality 5A/6A team from here to Nashville. The Indians will need all the preperation they can get, seeing as their conference will most likely not readily prepare them for the playoffs.

I pray that Cary Daniels stays out of it and lets Coach Clark set the schedule. Daniels would have us playing Rye Cove and Haysi.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
