you must not watch UNC or the Phoenix Suns or any other team thats offense is running play much I think it worked for Roy Williams SO FAR. Oh and keep telling yourself your a title contender, but your not always a contender, rarely are you actually, definately not this year. BTW how do you consider a team whos had a coach there aslong as Randy King who has never won a state title a title contender? percentages are against you on that one. Most schools/pro teams cut coachs loose if they get them to the confrence ship every year or the championship but cant come through when it really matters.

Did I say title contender? No, I said that we contend for a state berth year in and year out. Difference is this is high school ball, not college or the pros, where coaches get paid big money to win and win alot, coaches at this level do it merely for the love of the game. No offense, but alot of great coaches in middle tn have come up short, it takes a certain amount of luck in the right year, especially considering the Memphis juggernaut out west. If no title is all the ammo you guys have on Randy, then your reaching. About to be 20 wins for 20 consecutive seasons with not one question raised of recruiting or bending of the rules. Consider this, Siegel needed 3 D-1 Signees to make a state final 4, Oakland just needed 1. I dont even need one hand to count the number of D-1 Signees that Oakland has had over the years. You cant fire a coach for getting the most of his talent, at any level. It isnt worth selling your program and your soul for 1 gold ball...............

And another thing............. You mention UNC and the Suns. Roy Williams was basically given a National Championship with the talent he inherited, yet he hasnt one with the mega-stars he has recruited, so under your line of thinking, if he fails to win one with Hansbrough and Co., that justifies getting fired? Phoenix didnt even get to the NBA finals, so would that justify D'Antoni getting fired as well?

a fourth of your state tournament appearances for basketball in a much shorter time, btw keep hating on the Siegel style of play you can say we get out coached sometimes, but they are taught to RUN RUN AND RUN. That is what they are coached to do.

I don't think people are hating on Siegel's team as much as they're hating on the obnoxious posters on Coach T. I'm a Siegel fan and I get tired of it. Kerry Hammonds is a great player, who wouldn't want a player of his caliber on their team, but lets not forget basketball is a team sport. Without Gooch, Tate, Mitchell, Ellis and Nicholas, he's just a good individual. And you certainly don't have to be an Oakland fan to appreciate Coach Randy King. Players come and go around here, but his ability to produce a competitive team year after year is remarkable. All the coaches around here could learn a few things from him. And correct me if I'm wrong, but a dunk and a layup both count for 2 points.

But lets just put Hammonds on Oakland then yall might be number 1. Its a big win because of how we have been struggling as of late not because of who we played. Hope we meet Oakland in the district tournament at some point, the championship is looking like the most likely way right now.

Why don't you just shut up SG! Siegel posters and myself our tired of hearing you tear down everyone else's school on here and give the rest of us a bad name. Give credit where credit is due! IF Siegel makes a run for that gold ball, they are going to need the support from the rest of the county schools. Just like Rutherford county came out to support Oakland in their run at football this year, I would like to see the same for whatever rutherford county team may make a state appearance in basketball this year. Show some respect!

If your going to reply to one of MY POSTS star gazer and tell me im tearing other schools down you might should have picked a different post, and I have respect for other schools no where have I blatantly said I dont have respect for other schools, I get fed up with all the posters on here attacking Siegel for the talent we have saying we arent coached well and talents all we win off of. What constitutes a great coach because Coach Harris coached there for 5 years went to 3 states a fourth of kings in a shorter time. Based off king being a great coach Harris is a GREAT COACH. Star Blazer I just stand up for ours while you just sit aroud and wanna play mr nice guy all the time while people are on here ripping our basketball teams coaching, teamwork, offense, basically everything about Siegel basketball gets ripped. I supported Oakland, no one tried to rip them all season in football like there fans try to rip us in basketball, read more and get on more if you wanna post star gazer. And who are you to speak for siegel posters you have posted 125 times in over 2 years, i could careless about your dumb 2 cents i can rip into you if your tired of me running my mouth, but i dont care what anyone on here thinks about Siegel they all hate us anyways, the sooner you realize that maybe the better off you will be. As for OakPat, Joe Torre, Mike Shanahan, Jon Gruden, Flip Saunders, Phil Fulmer, Larry Coker, Dusty Baker, just a few coaches who have been let go AFTER winning a championship for not being able to win another one. All be it I admit high school sports are a little different then pro and college, great coaches win championships. Mack Hawk, great coach, McDaniel, Great Coach, GARY RANKIN, THE BEST COACH, Siegels girls soccer coach shelton, great coach, King, not a great coach. And thanks for the stat on him not getting players to go to 1a schools, guess he doesnt help players get better to get to that level, and TJ messick can not out jump Kerry or Marc, or Nick any day of the week.

and dunking is an intangible because what momentum does a layup give your team, not the same as a dunk thats for sure.

in?·tan?·gi?·ble (n-tnj-bl)

adj.

1. Incapable of being perceived by the senses.

2. Incapable of being realized or defined.

3. Incorporeal.

n.

I think every one can define and realize what Oakland does game in and game out so therefore they dont have as many intangibles as the Stars do. Nothing wrong with it Oakland is by far the 2nd best team in the district imo. I hope we get to meet again like I already said.

Not to take anything away from Coach Harris or Coach Dotson, but Siegel has been blessed with a lot of talent in certain sports , boys basketball being one of those. Most coaches should be relatively successful with the talent they have had. That being said, Coach King doesn't always have the most talented teams. But he ALWAYS gets the most out of what he has and plays to their strengths. Year after year, his teams are disciplined and fundamentally just good. He may not win them all, but IMO he will rarely get outcoached. Like I said earlier, I'm a Siegel fan, and you won't see me on here bad mouthing our coaches. I just believe in giving credit where credit is due.

please allow me to reply to my own post. Coach King is a great coach and does a great job with his guys. they have talent at oakland. where do you think all of the people that are at siegel went before siegel was built...oakland. im hearing rumors that king is going to providence with the old oakland principal. i guess he sees the writing on the wall. siegel has taken over this district and oaklands jv and freshmen teams are absolutely terrible.

i saw riverdales point guard in the hallway today at school. i dont know whats going on but im slowly becoming a riverdale fan. they just keep sending their best players to siegel. lol.

Why would people not make alot of Hammonds?? He's the best player in the district... On the best team in the district

I agree with you that Hammonds is the best player now playing but if Puckett had not gotten hurt he would have been the MVP of the district. If he had not gone down against Oakland they could never have beaten Sparta. Puckett has the talent and is a very smart young man. He just had a very bad run on luck. After his surgury he will make some college, wherever the choses to go, a very good player.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
