Here are our scores:

GHS 48 - West Greene 30

GHS 50 - Chuckey Doak 24

Our young guys did a great job and the seniors really led this team. I am proud of you guys. We have several that are still playing football so some guys really had to step up their game.

Best Matt King observations: 2 years ago, the Greeneville coach was an asst. at Science Hill, Brimer was his head coach and David Hollowell was wearing green. Tonight, I was the coaching the devils, Brimer is a ref and was in the stands yelling like crazy at his nephew and Coach Hollowell was in blue and gold.

I had to remind Matt that 20 years ago, Coach Hollowell was my coach, Brimer was the enemy at TN High, and my assistant coach, Wayne Saul, was wrestling Jon Renner, the SH assistant coach, about three times a year, Todd King was our 112....and Matt King wasn't even alive.

Funny how things change but those are some of the best men alive...and that won't change.

Yes that is very weird how that works out. Good job last night coach, way to start the season off. Seniors looked really tough last night and I agree led the team well. Look forward to watching you guys wrestle DB /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> As for you lefty you seen me tonight not 175lb yet but defiantly getting close. I can see that TDArtist still has faith in me to make 140. From what I hear from the practices I wouldn't have trouble at all making 140.

Well KEV-O, it is true. Coach Hollowell is helping out the wrestling program at West Greene. You should have seen him last night, BOY he was pumped up. West Greene lost their coach from last year, so the head football coach took it over. Not having any experience in wrestling, the Principle Larry Bible, knowing that Coach Hollowell wasn't doing anything but sitting on his couch eating Hot Tamales and M&M's, /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" /> gave him a call. The way this man loves the sport of wrestling, I don't blame him a bit for getting of the couch. I have to say, watching my old coach, coaching against my son, was a hard pill to swallow. But after watching him and seeing the fire in his eyes, KEV-O it's a good thing!!!

Go get'em Coach!!! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

When I told Charlie that Hollowell was at WG, The first thing he said was " I bet you could see his influence on the mat couldn't you". And he was right, no slam on anybody else but after setting in the stands and watching this mans influence on our team and young men. It is not hard to see it coming out in the WG team. We are proud of you coach.

But it was kinda hard to see you in that blue and yellow!!!!

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
