Hey Scoot

You still out there?

Heard anything??????

Still here, and waiting like everyone else.

The last word I have heard is that so far 14 people have applied for the position. The only two names I know for sure are Mike Pearson, & Shane Rewis. I also heard three coaches from out of state have applied. For some reason it's not been discussed a whole lot.

Jon McBrayer is not the answer for Heritage. I heard from former players that while he was an assistant at Heritage under Wilson he was not well liked, and the players felt like he did not know what he was talking about. His only experience is at Union County where he had a dismal record. I am not sure he would be the right fit.

The new coach at Heritage is going to have to built speed, a sense of community, discipline, keep players from Maryville & Alcoa, get players out of the hallways, and build a winning attitude. It will be hard to find the right person for the job that wants the job. Good luck to Heritage on the search. It seems like they are a school that could have success (5-5, 6-4 seasons) with the right coach. I hope the Heritage program is built up and becomes competitive.

McBrayer would be a great fit for Heritage, when he was at HHS he was very young, had little coaching experience. Went to Oak Ridge and became an outstanding coach, players loved and respected him. My son played for him there for four years, he was an assistant and freshman coordinator. He went to Union County to get Head Coaching experience, left there to go to Seymour. Heritage would be lucky to get him but I don't think he would leave Seymour to go to Heritage.

That's the first positive comment I've heard about a coach at Oak Ridge in 2+ years on this website.

If he applied hire him now!

has anybody heard anything about jon young applying for the job?

I don't think Jon has applied. He is a great coach and the kids really enjoy playing for him. He connects with them and gets the most out of the team.

But, I am not sure if he is ready for the Head coaching job at the high school just yet. In time he will make a great high school head coach.

Whoever the new coach is, I hope he keeps Jon on staff to coach the QB's and run the offense, he has a great offensive mind and I think he would do a wonderful job with the tallent on offense he has coming back next season. To mention a few, Cermak, Shell, Adams, Weeks, Eldridge, Cline, Gordon, and Newman. Several lineman return also. It should be intresting to say the least.

Does anyone know how his teams did at Union County?

I was getting a little confused. We are talking about two Jon's. Jon Young (has not applied) Jon McBrayer (has applied). Is this correct scoot?

Some of these men sound like great fits but I wish to submit the following.

I would like the school board or Mr. Hoard set up a coach search committee, maybe some people will do it on a volunteer basis. Then raise the starting salary to attract some successful coaches rather than playing the old' boy games or looking for someone with local ties.

Heritage has been so bad for so many years the school and the kids deserve better. To a lesser extent WB is in the same boat in my humble opinion. The extra compensation would come from putting excitement and butts in those empty seats. Heritage has the best field atmosphere, parking and campus layout of all the schools in the county for a Friday night HS Football game. Other things that might help is a rule could be enacted to ban transfers to other Blount county schools (MHS & Alcoa) but allow transfers from other systems to the Blount County schools under a tuition system. Maybe allow the schools to drop a classification for the next 5 years or something like that. The program need to be fixed and changing coaches alone won??™t get it done.

Things outside the box should be done for a limited time to make the schools Football team competitive. The kids deserve better and a coach who knows how to get them there in badly needed. I have respect for every man who has been at HHS and WB, but frankly they could not get it done. So it must be other things right?

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
