Z-Plan (All schools not created equal)

While the talk of districts excited people across this part of the state some of us appear to not be so lucky after all. Rumor is that Jackson County, projected to be in a district with five teams will be combined with a district of four teams to make a region of nine for round robin regular season play. This will lock the Blue Devils into a schedule that allows for two outside teams, so much for renewing rivalries.

Instead, Jackson County, having thought that the move might breath new life into a program that has been long suffering, will again see the TSSAA set up additional obstacles. If this is true, which it appears to be, the question must be asked why? Is it to improve the concept (even though on the surface it appears to go directly against the concept and is in stark contrast to the excuses given for adding a sixth classification; yeah yeah, it isn't about the money). Or, is it to protect certain schools helping them schedule opponents because if the TSSAA didn't make a mega-region they would be hard pressed to find teams to play them?

So some schools will play in districts while some will play in mega-regions? Why not have the same rules for all. The wild card playoff teams will be awarded to teams playing by two different sets of rules. Here is hoping the TSSAA reconsiders this blatant discriminatory practice before making a final decision.

Please respond and pass this along to everyone who understood that the Z-plan meant playing in districts similar to basketball and baseball among other sports and not moving into a mega-region with additional travel to play against unfamiliar opponents!

I wouldn't complain about it!!!

I would not call it totally complaining, but where is the fairness not only to Jackson Co but all the other teams in the upper cumberland. When all across the state teams are playing in a 5 or 6 team region and this region has 9!!!! There is a solution and it is find a fifth team for the trousdale disrtrict and that can be done.

I loved the 10 team region we use to play in!!! Almost every game counted for a region game!!! And every week was a dog fight!!! Great Football!!!

2A

Jackson Co

Trousdale Co

Friendship

Watertown

1A

Gordonsville

Clay Co

Pickett Co

Red Springs

Monterey

Watch this video and see if you don't agree with me. The top 2 2A teams and the top 2 1A teams will make the playoffs.I don't think it's a done deal until tomorrow. They might still be in 2 districts instead of one region.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
