New Coach at Blackman

I think we all saw how well the wing-T worked for Oakland last year. Although I'm not a Blaze fan (for obvious reasons) I hate to hear that for them. When we went to it last year I heard from several different people that college recruiters HATE that offense and it is much harder to judge talent on a team that runs it. I know Riverdale used it quite successfully but how many of their players were recruited to D-1 schools?

Yeah but then again you can ask Georgia Tech fans if they like the Wing-t now that they have used it for a year and won several ball games with it. Including the Georgia game. But I guess you are probably right no one likes to see it run anyway. I would bet you that Georgia Tech recruiters would love to see it run well in high school.

I do not want to sound like a jerk but Ga. Tech does not run the wing-t. They are are spread option (FlexBone) team. Certainly there are some aspects of the wing-t involved (as there are in every offense) but it is a triple option offense and not the wing-t. It is just a little pet peeve of mine. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

How did that pivotal game with Hendersonville (and the wing-t) turn out for you. Personally, I think you guys are blowing the offensive arguements way out of proportion...wing-t's in and off itself are different (there are plenty of hybrid versions of it). The single wing was a laughing matter 3 years ago, and Houston Nutt thought differently at a major college level and look at what has happened since (which further proves my point b/ce then he tweaked it, it has since been tweaked more, and so on). Guys, football is cyclical, and defenses will catch up only to have an offense branch off again...that is the beauty of it. Look at the main ingredients of the checklist: is the guy a worker, does he make the weight room a priority, does he surround himself with quality people, is he a motivator, and will his kids play hard for him. Research that, if he grades high, hire the guy and give him what he wants-don't give hime the keys to a car that won't start.

By the way, GWAVE 1, you look to have Mount Juliet, Hendersonville, and Station Camp on the schedule for you...three wing-t's, three easy wins?

Don't forget that Wilson Central ran a hybrid wing-t in that motion offense and up until they get a new coach Portland ran the wing-t. But yep three easy wins next year.

Look up the stats...since 1969 NO team has won at the highest classification running the wing-t in the state of Tenneessee. You can be offended but that is a fact. Lots of good teams run it but in the top tier noone has won it. Until they do, that fact stands. Every year this is the argument, wing-t, wing-t, wing-t, never I formation, Spread, Wishbone, always wing-t. If it ain't a problem then why the discussion?

Here's a stat: Hendersonville's "wing-t" has owned that tail for the last decade...MJ almost scored 28 points before halftime the last time you guys traveled there, and Station Camp is more than capable. I never said I was offended about it, I just believe that this offense can and WILL win a state championship at the top level. And for those three programs I mentioned, congratualtions, you just made their offseason bulletin board. While you're at it, since the offense is so inept, go ahead and predict you'll shut all three of them out. And, thanks for bringing up Central...throw in that they'll be an easy win, too. Just like when they pasted that tail 26-0 a few years back.

and a little pet peeve of mine is when people talk about thing that they have no clue about. It is pretty funny to me how when Paul Johnson is at Navy and Georgia Southern he is running the wing-t but now all of the sudden since he is at Georgia Tech it is no longer the wing-t. Explain to me why they line up in 300 and 400 wing-t set jsut about evry play if that is not what they are running. Also their blocking scheme runs right along with wing-t basics with the down blocks and a kick block. Yes they do run the triple option but it is out of the wing-t.

bugaboo,

You need to go back and look at your history again. Ga. Southern ran the flex bone, Air Force runs the flexbone and Ga. Tech runs the flex bone. You can call it Diptidedo if you want to but it is wishbone with the 2 halfbacks up nearer the line then they were when the wishbone first started..they were in the back field bahind the tackles.

Guys...lol..GT runs the flexbone.....2 tight slots and a FB.....you see orbit motion with the flexed slots....a traditional wing t has a wing (positioned outside a TE) and either 2 backs (traditional wing-t) or one back and a tight slot on the weak side...

They have their similarities, but Urban Myers spread in Florida has a lot of single wing ideas in it, but its still called the spread.

Or they have no clue what they are doing.

searching for words to respond to this............

what are YOU doing, making an insulting comment toward OUR administration, while YOUR team is hours away from playing in the state championship game ?

you have too much time on your hands, dude..........get a life

plenty of constructive and interesting ways to participate in the conversation without insulting those you know nothing about......and I know YOU know nothing about what's going on at Blackman because those "close" to the program don't even have all the facts

Mrs Vick and Mr Lawless have conducted an extensive search and have received close to 50 applications from coaches in several states.....they've interviewed probably a dozen or more

no situation is perfect but we have a great opportunity at Blackman to take the next step in the football program and we will

we have a great group of players and parents ready to support the next guy, whoever that is

and we have confidence in Mrs Vick, who will make the final decision, to choose that person

don't worry about us, patriot, go to the championship game, WIN IT (and I mean that) and we'll see ya'll next year on the field

You leave out several facts. Facts that don't support your argument besides your jealousy of the Green Wave program. Mt Juliet lost this year running the wing-t, Hendersonville won this year but had lost three years prior running the wing-t, and Wilson Central won 28-14 then got beat the following year by the inept Green Wave. The overall record is massively in favor of a team that does not run the wing-t, GALLATIN. Put it on the board, frame it and look at it every day if you want to. Until you made it personal, I was just stating the facts about the wing-t and state championships at the highest level. You can coach, cheer for, or play in that archaic offense all you want but it still ain't won the big one. And won't this year.

I could list a lot of wing t teams that have won state championships over the last 3 years in the United States. The style of offense has nothing to do with it. It's about execution.

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
