it is time to make a decision about the new head coach at OR highschool. it seems that the search committee is waiting for the great of greatest coaches to apply and take the OR FB tem to new hieghts. All the talk as been about Ron Grey and the Knox Catholic coach, according to multiple posters the decision had been made numerous times without any announcements being made. No doubt it's a big hire and everyone wants to get it right but, the committee has numerous applications that have the ability to coach this team and should take into account that they have ball players that are ready to get started with a new direction and get ready for 2009. Maybe if they wait long enough the new guy will be able to use that as an excuse when the boys are not ready to play.

Only question I've got reading this is why haven't any of the assistant coaches taken the lead in organizing off season workouts?

The thing that people need to understand is that no matter how hard the assistants are trying to get the players to come work out, you are going to have the ones that are not going to come or not work out as hard as they can until a head man is hired. Until they know who they are playing for. Also, the assistants are probably not going at it whole heartedly because they don't even know if they will be hired by the new HC.

Oak Ridge is about to miss the boat. The kids are getting behind, some of the applicants are prob finding other jobs, & I know of at least 3 guys in the surrounding area that are good coaches who are wanting to apply for assistant positions there. But, that cant happen until they hire a HC. Not to mention they are already working hard to prepare their current team for the upcoming season. The longer they wait the more likely guys like this will decide to stay where they are at. Not to mention, Im sure all that applied had a few guys they wanted to bring & the longer that they have to wait the harder it would be to get them to come along.

So one of two things: Oak Ridge is either screwing up & missing out on a chance to bring in a great coach or they already know who they are going to hire, but they are taking their time to announce it just to appease the community & make it look like they are doing a thorough search.

Just to give an update! Coach Pemberton from Catholic turned the job down Tuesday. For the last month, Coach Gray and Coach Pemberton were the leading candidates. Now that Pemberton has turned the job down, get ready folks. The family who has been seen at OR basketball games wearing OR gear again is coming to town. You have to take in account that Mullins and Grey are good friends. This hired will lead to both of there departures, which is a good thing.

I heard today that Oak Ridge has approached Ron Gray about what kind of staff he could put together. That is a 100% fact. I will be very surprised if he is not the new head coach.

The Pemberton situation is a little strange too. He was gung-ho about helping Ron get the OR job a while back and even wrote him a letter of recommendation...then all the sudden he jumped in the mix and then turned it down. I wonder if he was using OR to leverage a better deal from Catholic? Any KC fans here know the story?
