Bianca Thomas is tied for top scorer on Ole Miss this season. Holloway from Dyersburg red-shirted last year and has played in every game this year, starting 7 games out of 19. She is really coming on lately having led the team in rebounding 5 of the last 10 games, starting the last 4. Thomas is a junior and Holloway a freshman.

Here is a list I came up with....These are players from West Tennessee in the OVC....Girls that are not at UTM...Don't know if they were recruited or not....

Murray State....

Ashley Hayes-Humboldt...Lady Racer leading scorer

Jana Roney-Obion Central

Rachael Isom-Cleveland...Not West Tn but a Tennessee player that went out of state

Austin Peay....

Jasmine Rayner-Mem North Side

Ashley Herring-Bartlett

SEMO....

Daumonique Lenhardt-Bolton by way of Southwest Tn CC

Tennessee State....

Meredith Stafford-Mem Central

Jasmine Ellis-Mem Central

Now add those girls to the girls that UTM has from West Tn (Cali Cupples-Dyer County(Red-shirted), Whitney Malone-Munford & Phyllisha Mitchell-Mem Craigmont) the Lady Skyhawks would be pretty good...Much better than they are now....

Not-so HeavyD, I can tell by your posts. You are an idiot and dont know what your talking about.

WOW!! What a statement that lacks credibility and what else-- oh yeah, doesn't make sense.

NSHD knows of what he speaks. When he states this is some of the best talent to come out of 13AA and he's seen basketball in the area for many, many, many , many years, than we must take him at his word. The summer camps and leagues he's been involved with also adds to and backs up the statement. So let's move on and not be a hater /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

As for the players and whether they are D-1 talent or not, I could easily see Butler, Fussell and Rechis playing in the big programs in Division 1. Whether it be SEC or OVC it doesn't matter. As for UTM- yes in a selfish way, you would like to see all of the talented players stay close to home so you could see them play all the time.

It hasn't been that long ago when the UTM women where competing for the OVC title and being an alum of the institution I hope to see that again, sooner rather than later.

When it comes down to these three players and a college choice, I'm sure they'll choose what's best for them and I hope for the best for all of them /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

I wish other local girls would go UTM and play.....There IS talent around here worthy of playing for UTM.....I would enjoy going and watching them much much more if there was more girls from our area....

Good post, that is exactly what I'm trying to say . HeavyD stays on my case. He's really a nice guy but he likes to hammer me every chance he gets.

I know he will agree with this. Westview is loaded this year and will probably win the state.

Maybe I'm taking this wrong..If I am let me know....You say that Butler could put up the same numbers as Fussell or Rechis but doesn't because she is so unselfish...Are you implying Fussell or Rechis are selfish players??....I've watched Chassidy alot over her career and I don't see her as selfish...I see her this year as stepping into a new role as the "go to player" for the Lady Rebels, something she hasn't had to be in her two previous seasons....Rechis is anything but selfish..It would be pretty silly for her not to shoot...When she gets hot I'd look for her EVERY possession....She is deadly from beyond the arc...But she does look for her teammates....I will say this as well...Chassidy looks for teammates...I don't know how many times I have seen her make a perfect pass to a teammate and that player mishandle the ball or miss an easy lay-up...Sometimes she does take the shot with a player open but she will normally get the shot and draw the foul...She is seeing every kind of junk defense out there and her low point total for the year is 22....She does things that the opponents she plays cannot do...Like treefitty said, she needs for one or maybe two people to step up consistently every game, not just every other game...The Lady Rebels lost the Westview game and the GC game last night because Chassidy was the only one scoring consistently...She was 10-17 from the floor...2-6 from beyond arc and 7-8 at the free throw stripe...She also had 8 rebounds....Nobody else for the Lady Rebels scored in double figures...GC had one with 22 and another with 20 along with one who scored 11...There is your game right there....

The other point I wanted to make is this....You say Butler is the "best player in the district when you consider everything she does for her team"....Take Chassidy away from OC and see what their record is...Take Butler away from GC and you still have a marquee player in Reedy....GC would still be very good without Butler...There is nobody in this district that can do the things Fussell can do offensively....She isn't the greatest defensive player in the district but in her defense the Lady Rebels cannot have her fouling out of games...She has to be smart with what she does....

**Now before any Lady Rebel moms and dads get on here thinking I am saying that OC is a one-girl team, that's not what I'm saying....OC has some very good role players..I think after watching them play several times this year they have very good senior leadership...Those seniors don't mind pointing out things their teammates need to be doing..They just need one or two more players step up and be more consistent on the offensive end to take the load off Chassidy....More and more teams are going to put two players on her and somebody needs to be that player that makes an opposing team pay for that strategy**

Don't put words in my mouth!! I love watching all of these talented young ladies play ball. I just look @ each one differently based on their style of game. I would never say any one of these players were selfish. I only like to point out the positives!! After all these are kids we are talking about. I will agree that Butler has more help but IMO I think Butler could easily avg. as many as Fussell if she was asked to do so. I don't argue the fact OC is still looking for 1-2 more players to step up but if you put Butler in Fussell's shoes I think she could put up similar numbers albeit in her own way. You have your opinion & I have mine!! I wish someone would let us know when these 3 play AAU this summer. That would be awesome to watch!! Pair them up with two dominant inside players

and who are you gonna guard?? Get your popcorn ready!!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
    • I know most Pirate starters were seniors last year. Im not sure how accurate it is but someone said we only have 3 seniors. That Prep team will probably make some noise this coming season too.
