I have heard that workouts have been going great this winter. I heard that the coaches are opening the weight room up in the mornings at 7:00 for football players who have to work and keeping it open until 8:00 at night for football players who play another sport. The cats will be young in alot of skill areas but should be tough up front. Good luck in 09

What's the deal? You people talk about how bad OZ is and yet you are upset because they won't schedule your mighty tigers of Rockwood to open the season. Why would you want to play them anyway, i mean if they are so inferior to you as a team, why are you so upset? Oh I get it, you're upset because you are looking for some easy wins, but no, that can't be it, because you two are being critical of OZ for doing the same thing. Sooo whats the deal? I do recall overhearing some coaches in the area talking about Alcoa, Loudon, and CAK, calling all the teams of the old district looking for games this year, Hmmm I don't recall seeing any of them on your schedule either. And as for you Slim, I don't think it will be necessary for OZ High to schedule Rockwood Middle, because if you are a true fan then you are aware that OZ Middle has already taken care of that business the past two years.

I don't understand how you can pass on playing COUNTY teams to go elsewhere, other than being scared. Maybe you can change your mascott from the Bobcats to a slang name for a cat, if you catch my drift. Give me one good reason why OS would do this and I will shut up!!!!!!!!!

All I know is with that schedule they better win????? It is one thing to schedule a team that is in your county and lose.....but you start losing to teams that are 2 hours away?????

I hope they do win, because I don't like to see any school go through the struggles they have been through.

All I can say is, their schedule can make them or break them. Only thing worse than a loss and a 20 minute ride is a loss with a 2 hour ride.

I don't know why I'm on here trying to explain this but here goes. I think to say OZ has struggled the past few years is an understatement. The teams haven't been competitive mostly because of the district they were in, add to that there are probably some of the best athletes they have in school, are not playing football. If you do a little research you will find (according to the ratings on coach t) they've had one of the toughest schedules in AA football the past two years. Tough schedule + some of the best athletes in the school choosing not to participate = not very good results. I've been told Coach Brackett is taking a lot of heat for this from the natives. So maybe he's taking the approach "lets start over", First, kids have to have some confidence, with a little confidence they start believing, then, hopefully start winning. You've heard the slogan "learning to win". these kids have been beat down for so long, in my humble opinion they need to learn how to win, and if that means playing a soft schedule, then so be it. I think 4th&goal was just wanting a little information on how the team is doing. I don't think he was interested in hearing the opinions of people who get off on bashing kids when they're down. with that being said I'll try to break it down into terms that even a Monkey can understand (that is if he can read). You learn to crawl before you learn to walk, you learn to walk before you learn to run etc. Oh by the way 4th&goal, according to an assistant coach there are about 30 to 35 kids working out on a regular basis, that's not counting kids playing basketball and soccer. Also according to rumors there are several seniors to be coming out that haven't played in a few years. So hopefully for the school's sake they can start turning things around. So slim & co. call it being a chicken if you want, in my opinion the coaches are trying rebuild the program from the ground up. If certain folks can't understand that then I've got nothing else to say.

I agree with you slimpikins

The teams there playing out of district....miles from O.S. high school to the school there playing

Hancock Co. 100 miles

Grundy Co. 120 miles

Clay Co. 117 miles

So there driving 337 miles just to the schools there play thats not counting the trip home

Teams the could have played and made more money then they will with them 3 teams

Harriman 14 miles

Kingston 24 miles

Rockwood 25 miles

totals miles 63 miles

The confusing thing, to me, is why drop the other county teams now when, IMO, OS was about to become competitive again. There's a lot of talent in what will be 9-11 grades next year, that was always competitive in LL and MS.I'm not trying to bash OS......i think OS could give Oneida a run for their money in the next couple years or so,but dropping Rockwood,Hairrman,And Kingston now makes little sense.

I think this is sending a terrible message to the boys. We can no longer compete in Roane County, so we are going to "water down" the schedule. These kids deserve better than that. I am still waiting on someone, anyone to give me just 1 good reason for this change and I will post no more on this topic!!!!!!!!!!

    • Understand the young thing.  I was one of those.  Barely 17 when I graduated from high school and started college.  But redshirting for athletic purposes isn't doing them any favors, in my opinion.  Life isn't always going to be fair.

    • The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.
    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
