Correct me if im wrong but dont you have to be a freshman to wrestle in freshman nationals? Isnt Sean Kennedy in 6th grade?

That was my thoughts when I saw that as well...I was at AAU middle school states last week in Crossville and he was wrestling ??

Justin Spearin from ga was listed at 130 I think he is a middle school guy too but could be wrong on that one

I have no doubt that he isnt scared, and he is a phenomenal wrestler. Im just wondering how hes allowed to do it..... I would really appreciate some insite.

hope he does well ...Seems to be a talented wrestler...Guess if you got to go with big bro might as well wrestle /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

A couple of Chattanooga 8th graders that wrestled varsity would have went if they knew that they could have though!!

This has nothing to do with being scared! Did Mr. Kennedy receive permission from Bob Ferraro to wrestle in the Freshmen division or did he just send in the registration and hope that no one called their hand on the issue? I know other kids like Bo Jordon of Ohio would probably like to enter the tournament but are not old enough.

tnko,

If you "aint skeered", does that mean you are above the law?

Please read the attached for eligiblity rules for entering the Freshman division.

http://www.nhsca.com/index.php?view=detail...&Itemid=118

Does this mean the Sherriff of the 'boro is above the law, or is there no law once he leaves the 'boro? How can a 6th grader, if he is truly a 6th grader, enter the Freshman division when the rules clearly state the following; "Eligibility: Must be enrolled in high school with freshman eligibility". If there was a waiver, can anybody get the waiver?

I know there are plenty of Middle School wrestlers here in Chattanooga that would love to have attended this tournament but did not due to eligibility.

WHO'S IT HURTING,

I really don't understand the problem. A fellow Tennessee wrestler wants to go test themselves, I for one hope the young man does well. I can understand if the people running the tournament have a problem but why do fellow Tennessee parents want to make a big deal out of a mole hill. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

I guess you fall into the "Rules are made to be broken"!

Why don't we have 6th & 7th graders wrestle in the TSSAA? Oh, I forgot, there are rules. What the heck, they can be broken!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't blame the kid for wanting good competition (thats why he is going to probably be pretty good in high school), still he will probably go 2 and out. But Remember there are some Jason Lusters, and Zach Sandersons out there who not only survive as middle schoolers in these massive high school tournaments but persevere, thrive, and dominate them. But as far as TSSAA events are concerned I could care less how old these kids are as long as they could compete at a substantial level while not being in danger of being injured.

The bold part is your problem. Very few kids have the physical maturity to handle a move up like that. There is a reason we have these age divisions.

The kids like Jason Luster are absolute physical freaks (not in the demeaning sense, it just doesn't happen often, and we won't go into the controversy surrounding his age) and Sean Kennedy is not built like that. Let him go with the high school kids during his club practices if he truly needs that level of competition.

Chattwrestling,

You and I see eye to eye on many things but the person that it may be hurting is the wrestler himself, in more than one way.

Exactly right, ghouse. Does anyone know if this kid is still registered to compete, or is he going to make the drive and then have the tournament officials tell him he cannot?

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
