ChauncyGardiner - I recall that at one time in the 60s Alcoa was the largest school in the state with an enrollment over 2000. Where does that fit in with your time line and your 400-450 assertion??? Or am I confusing you with some other school in your area?

It's possible you are thinking of Oak Ridge or Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett. I believe either or both of them may have had over 2000 students in the 1960's. Given the size of the school building used to house Alcoa High School, 4 students would have had to occupy each seat to fit 2000 into the building. The current Alcoa High School building was first occupied in the 1964-1965 school year and is approximately the same size now as when it was built.

The US Census shows the city of Alcoa with a population of 6,355 in 1950, 6,395 in 1960, and 7,739 in 1970. The estimated population in 2003 was 8,174. So, there never has been a large spike in the population.

I'm sure this is more than you wanted to know, but I believe you have Alcoa High confused with another school. The school's enrollment has been relatively stable since the 1950's.

Probabaly the dumbest most un-informed post I have ever read here. I would put Memphis talent against any school you wish to put up overall. Good grief that was stupid.

My mistake. I meant Memphis programs were behind the Nashville and Knoxville programs.

I am so sorry. Please forgive me. I am so ashamed. That was stupid.

Hey man, I was just responding the statement of talent, as far as coaching goes, Memphis Public schools has the WORST HS coaching in the state. They cannot develop talent or they cannot discipline their teams. If the public schools could get the talented kids to even play football, and develop them into players then Memphis would dominate year in and year just because of the shear size of the city. There are a lot of kids who are much more talented than the MUS players, they just don't have the coaching. Memphis only has so much funding that is provided for HS sports, it is not a good situation in that town.

Alcoa has a great team but no public school could beat Ensworth or Memphis University School.

That's pretty accuarte Ron, IMO. Howver, I believe we could beat Ensworth, but if we were to play ten times I believe they would take us more times then we'd take them. Also, if we were to play MUS ten times I think they would also take us more, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if we won one or two.

    • I extend my gratitude to ManCoverage for initiating this discussion thread tailored to the residents of Trousdale County. In times of adversity within our football team, it is imperative to have an outlet for expression, and what better platform than CoachT's Craigslist forum? I respectfully request that GOAT exercise discretion in his commentary, as his remarks have caused me personal distress.
    • I am inclined to wager a substantial portion of my financial assets on the likelihood that Waggoner shall transition to an alternative coaching vocation prior to the year 2028. It is my contention that discerning individuals are beginning to perceive his coaching prowess as lacking in the requisite excellence. Allow me to articulate the following assertion: Waggoner represents a markedly superior choice compared to the individual who perpetrated the act of fuel theft.   This individual exhibits a conspicuous propensity for frequent professional transitions, a trait which undermines his credibility and renders him an untenable choice for serious consideration. It is indeed confounding that his candidacy continues to garner attention and support.
    • Yeah same   It’s definitely true that tough times make tough kids, but some kids just have a big passion for the game and will become the best of the best no matter where they come from.
