Blackman vs Riverdale

Classless? Sure does sound like some sore losers...too sore, like that guy who got drilled by #22. No apologies from that because it was a completely clean hit. Your QB threw an ill advised pass and left his receiver out to dry. #22 had every right to celebrate that but the whole tone changed pretty quick when they realized the kid on the receiving end could be seriously hurt. Nothing classless about that...good luck to the guy, hope he's alright and I feel like I can speak for #22 as I'm sure he feels the same way. But let him have his pride for a phenomenal legal hit. Its part of the game. I would've been disappointed if he stood over the guy and taunted him while he was down, but that was not the case. Trust me I watched from the sideline.

Great job to Blackman for reaching the peak of their program thus far. However, you could tell Riverdale was on a mission to go out and prove that that first game was a fluke. I think they proved that with the comfortable fashion they won in.

Hopefully all the Blackman injured players recover quickly, and hopefully none of them are seniors and have a chance to come back next year bigger, better, and stronger. Hate to see any player get hurt, but its just something that goes hand and hand in a physical game.

Great job to both teams, and keep rollin' Riverdale.

...oh, yeah, the game...

Riverdale just beat us...no excuses here. We made way too many mistakes and Riverdale played a pretty clean game...actually really clean compared to Blackman. penalties..snap over the punter's head..interceptions..fumbles, especially on 2nd half kickoff following our TD ending the 1st half..a couple of defensive busts and missed tackles at the wrong time..you can't win at this level at this time of year with that

And Riverdale did a nice job of game planning with a few tweeks from week 10...nice job of executing the passing game...that killed us by keeping drives alive...and they'd line up strong one way, then trade the TE and motion to the TE, and then run their offense to the new strong side...better matchups for Riverdale, and crucial to their success tonight.

Riverdale is not what I'd consider great at anything, but real good at about everything...no glaring weaknesses. On the other hand, our weak spots kinda got exposed...but that's okay...it's one game and we're headed in the right direction.

Good win by Riverdale tonight. Big games are usually won at the LOS and Riverdale's lines pretty much dominated tonight. #2 seemed to break out of his slump and played great tonight. The offense is really coming on but has its biggest test next Friday night. With West's passing, and the running of Odom, Sherrill, Gaines, Davenport, and West; this offense has a lot of weapons and seems to be peaking at the right time.

Defense played very well tonight. The drive just before half was disappointing and we need to the DBs to pull in those ints. Otherwise, the defense did a great job.

The officials were definitely a factor and made it difficult for the teams to get any momentum going.

Hope the Blackman players that were injured ar OK. Never want to see kids leave the field hurt. It was a very physical game.

Proud of the players for conducting themselves with as much class in victory as they did in defeat. The Warrior players looked like a team that understood that this was just the second round and much bigger games lie straight ahead.

Really good crowd, as expected.

Go Warriors...beat Oakland!!

OK, First off....Congrats RHS. You picked up on our downfalls and capitalized. Second.....your team showed absolutely NO Class at all during this game. Example: we have a player down and twitching after a helmet to helmet hit and your player (#22) is dancing around like some goon and grabbing his crotch. Yeah, thats all class if ya ask me. To bad even for the RHS coaching staff also, whom it seemed to take a while for them to get the hint that they may need to take a break from celebrating a dirty hit and actually pay some respect to a hurt player. You took a knee yes.....after the dancing, crotch grabbing , and cheering.....oh....and it was about the same time that the medical staff stood him up. WOW RHS, you sure are classy, i can only hope and pray one day that we have just as much class as you do and we can get just as many penalties in a game as you do points on the board. Man, Yall play like a championship team if I have ever seen one. GO OHS!!!!!!!:lol::excl:

Sounds like some sour grapes! 8-)

you are correct we are classless a player celebrates a big hit on a big 3rd down play I do agree he got a carried away with his celbration (did we not get a personal fould penalty on that play)when the team realizes the player is still down...the WHOLE TEAM GETS IN A CIRLCE FOR A PRAYER...which was organized by the players and so now we are all classless. I could bring up what your players did tonight but we wont get into that as it is not important as the game is over and we will all move on...I actually like it when we get called classless as that means we are winning

GO WARRIORS

The referee threw the flag behind the line of scrimmage. My guess is that we were called for a late hit on the QB. The hit on the receiver was a clean hit. No flag there. and just ignore BlAcKmAnBlAzE2009 - he/she is a 'Camper' with a little over a dozen posts. Just frustrated that "We ARE Blackman" became "We WERE Blackman" last night. :excl: I guess he/she forgot how some of their players (and one in particular) came over towards our sideline both before and after the game 'gesticulating' their thoughts - 8-) I don't remember anyone here mentioning that after that game but some of us (including the players) remembered it well going into last night. But these are kids playing a game. And there is always going to be someone like BlAcKmAnBlAzE2009 who gets on here and vents after a game because their team lost so they have to find fault with the team that beat them. If we had beat Cookeville last night and Oakland had beaten Blackman they would claim to be big Riverdale fans this week.

Both teams were just a great bunch of kids playing a high school football game. Early in the contest some of the Blackman kids were saying a few things to the Riverdale kids after a big hit or a tackle but when you are playing against friends/neighbors/someone you have been playing against since double-stripe helmet days some friendly jabbing and crowing is expected. They were having FUN. After all, it is a GAME.

Dang guys, give me a break with takin' shots at the kids..."classless"..."thugs"...? I've been involved in and watched a lot of football in my life and that was a well played game by the kids overall. There was a lot of emotion out there tonight and sometimes it spills out in a way that is regretable.

The hit by 22 on 3 was a good hit...NOT "helmet to helmet" as one said. I got it on video. I thought it was borderline taunting. I wouldn't have disagreed had it been called and I didn't complain when it wasn't. I think the reason it wasn't is because 22 didn't do the taunting "over" 3...know what I mean? Collier scrambled and threw it late over the middle...I'd have laid him out too...that's the game.

As far as "classless" and "thugs", that's just plain wrong, and frankly sounds like a remark made by a kid. My son, #10 BHS commented to me after the week 10 game that the Riverdale kids are the most respectful and hard playing players in the county, in his opinion. That's a reflection on Coach A and I congratulated him on the win and told him about that after the game. Coach A was very polite and I regard him as an elite high school coach, as I do Coach Shadowens.

Blackman had an awesome year. We are thrilled with the progress and excited about our future. I couldn't ask for my son to have a better high school football experience than he's had in the past month.

So congratulations to Riverdale for an impressive win...period. We'll cheer on the county and other mid-state teams for as long as they win, and expect to see the 2009 gold ball remain in Rutherford County.

We'll lay down and rest for a while, then get up and start preparing for 2010. See ya'll next year.

I know very little about Riverdale and Blackman, I'm just over here catching up on the game. However, this is one of the best posts I had ever read and should be written on every thread from A to AAAAAA with a few name changes. You guys have 2 great programs here, it a shame to get on here and single out kids who are playing a game. This post is refreshing and is what hs ball should be about. Good luck to Riverdale next week...I sure hope to see you guys in Maryville....one week at a time. Congratulations to Blackman for a great season, hope to see you guys in the future.

Yeah um there was no praying when the hit came at ALL, you were still trying to pull it together when he was helped off the field... Yeah you got in a "prayer circle" when PBD's son was hit but I'm sure that was ONLY to make sure you didn't get ANOTHER 15 yarder.... And NO, when you get called classless it doesn't mean that you are winning it simply means you are classless. PPL don't hate Riverdale because they are good, they hate Riverdale because they act like a bunch of thugs.... guess they get that from living in Warrior Motel, no WAIT I'm sorry there is no such thing as Warrior Motel, that is just something the Riverdale hating teams have come up with.... my bad, it's not true I promise... no one at Riverdale does ANYTHING wrong, what was I thinking.... Oh and of course Riverdale didn't deserve ANY of the penalties they received tonight (or any other night) that's called "home cookin" right? And what "things" did Blackman do tonight that would even COMPARE to the actions and attitude of SEVERAL Riverdale players? 22 needs to get hit in the mouth next week and I'll be there to watch Oakland deliver the blow. GO OAKLAND!!!!!!! :|

I have no dog in this hunt but went to both games to watch good football in Rutherford County. Good football is what I saw. Both teams are good. What seems to get in the way is the fans that get on here and talk like idiots!! Good parents and good kids on two good football teams. Since this seems to be a constant issue with fans pointing out kids I will give you something to think about. As an impartial bystander I will tell you what I saw at both games.....After the win at Riverdale players, multiple, went to the Riverdale side and made your crotch grabbing gesture to just metion a few at the Riverdale players. I blame the coaches and administration not the kids as class is taught there. The Riverdale kids should have taken a knee sooner, so what, they did and circled up to pray for a great player in Patton which I have heard of them doing before for other injured teams. After watching both games with no dog in the hunt Riverdale showed far more class in winning than Blackman but that is not the kids fault that is how they are allowed to act. Admistrators from Riverdale were on the field and keeping a tight grip on thier students after the game, that is not opinion that is fact. Point is fans people can get on here and type for hours and point out incidents on both sides of poor judgement and questionable plays on both sides. Don't be quick to throw stones when as many stones can be thrown back at you. These are teenage kids. These are two good football teams in Rutherford county. Both have had good seasons. There are good AND bad at BOTH. It is usually the adults and fans that get in the way of good high school athletics. So how about this...Go Rutherford County!!! Let's try to raise a good community instead of trying to generate hate and division.

Great Game of redemption for the Warriors. They played an all around game on both sides of the ball. Congrats to Blackman on a hard faught game to the end. It was nice to see the level of competition raised this year in the division. Adaboy to Coach Shad...your a class act. Pattonboy, I hope your boys ok...The jabs were fun and maybe we can pick it up next year...I saw this quote several times last night " If you want to play you have to train your body, If you want to win you have to train your heart" Both teams showed alot of heart this year! but the heart of a Warrior prevailed this time!!

Remember to all, The term Fan stands for fanatical and be as fanatical as you choose to be for your team, just do it with class...

i have copied "armstrong82" 's post because it puts into words 99% of all my thoughts for the game! Riverdale played really well, we make way to many mistakes, equals a blowout at this level!

"blaze2009" needs to apologize for their comments...and since they probably will not...i want to personally apologize for them...everyone has an opinion...and "blaze2009" can have his/ hers...but i disagree

riverdale...is class...their coach is class...their program is class!

congrads and i hope yall win it all! i really think you have a chance with the way you played last night and the way you passed the ball...that was a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE change that will take you to the next level!

P.S. the boy ended up having a pretty significant elbow dislocation...and the good news is no surgery needed! Thanks very much to all the prayers and encouragement on here!

    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
