It's been great to see this MBA team rally at towards the end of the season, and the last two upsets have been huge wins for the Big Red, but MUS is clearly the favorite in this game. They've won 25 games in a row while playing the toughest schedule in the league, and they have a very talented backfield. Is MBA capable of beating MUS? Absolutely. But, MBA will have to play close to perfect and they will have to capitalize on an MUS mistake or two. I believe that MUS is the only team in DII that holds a winning record over MBA, so I'd love to see MBA win, but it's not going to be easy. Good luck to the Big Red.

You're correct on every point. The only thing to add is that if both teams play to their potential, I think MBA comes up short. I don't think that MUS will be as gracious with the assistance as our two previous hosts.

Thankfully MUS won't tbe the host. Who is the home team by the way, the higher seaded team or does it rotate between divisions? I would rather travel to Cookeville then to Memphis. I still think it is a travesty to play this game on a Thursday night. I imagine both schools will be approaching exams, and The MUS students will probably have to miss the whole day Thursday and MBA a half day. Neither will be worth shooting on Friday. I guess exams are not something the TSSAA takes into consideration.

Owlbooster I will disagree with you about the effects of long bus rides. Those bus seats are cramped and especially the big boys do get stiff. Not to mention things can happen on the trip. On the trip for the first of the two games you and I discussed earlier in 2004, after the team stopped to eat in Jackson there was a wreck on I-40 and traffic was at a dead stop. The MBA boys got off the bus and pushed the cars out of the way so traffic could get by. They ended up getting to MUS with only about 45 minutes until kickoff.

owlbooster- do you know if the MUS team will be making the trip on Wednesday or Thursday? Because I also think that a 4-5 hour bus ride could have a negative effect on MUS if they make the trip Thursday. If they were to make it Wednesday, however, hotel rooms would be needed and that would get expensive. Maybe MUS plans on spending Thursday night in Cookeville anyways, but I wouldn't know.

For MBA, the fact that this game is on Thursday is not exactly good. Not necessarily for the players, but for the fans. I know that there are 7th, 8th, and 9th grade basketball games plus a wrestling match that same night. Maybe they/some of them will be canceled?? I believe that Jonas Rodriguez is the 9th grade basketball coach as well. Too bad.

MBA has no one on their entire team to stop Brunetti.Hes just too good of an athelete and will run all over MBA's defense. Also, i dont think that MBA will be able to run the ball at all with MUS's defense and they definately wont be able to pass. MBA will try to stay close, but its not going to happen.

MUS - 35

MBA - 10

If I had to bet I would say that Jonas will be at the game in Cookeville

well said....agree completely.

Also, is Peyton Manning's brother-in-law still an assistant at MUS?

And...do any of the MUS folks have any insight into Brunetti's decision to sign with West VA? Interesting choice....

BigRedDad et al - I don't deny that long bus rides have some negative effect; I just don't think it's as

big as some imply. I want to believe that a 17 yr old athlete doesn't have any lingering effects by game time. Of course, accidents and delays are a different thing. If you arrive just before the game, that could create some temporary problem. But that could happen to the MBA bus also. I trust everybody will leave early enough so that even a total breakdown isn't problematic.

GloryUnderTheLights - still waiting for you to cite a SINGLE example of my "bashing" another team. In fact, I have not criticized nor even critiqued an opponent before a game, and I have given credit or plaudits where merited after the game. I haven't predicted a score. The only team I mentioned in a negative light was the Father Ryan team of 1997-1998, who did in fact commit the rudest, most boorish, premeditated act of unsportsmanlike conduct I and my friends have ever seen in a HS game. You should also notice that many Nashville posters, including former players, said that my characterization of FORMER FR teams was accurate. A FR poster asserted that was no longer the case, I accepted that, and I saw nothing but the best sportsmanship by FR on the field last Friday. If you can't cite an example of "bashing" an opponent (you won't because you can't), please retract your inaccurate, unfair statement.

    • A lot of people don’t realize how valuable JMO was. QB, safety, punter and holder on pat’s. Kid did it all. I fully believe if he was healthy Dburg would have made it to the ship last year.
    • If Dyersburg quarterback who is also starting safety hadn’t got hurt it would of another blowout
    • For perspective the county school I’m associated and graduated from only has 7,600 people in the entire county with a median age of roughly 47. That’s not very many 14-18 year olds to choose from. I think the football team had 25-28 kids or around there.  On the other hand Shelby County has 916,000+ with a median age of 36. This isn’t just about Shelby county, but all the big ones with huge economic advantages!  An urban/rural split would benefit tons of smaller schools that have to compete with counties with 120x the amount of people. Especially the ones who can pick and choose their players from a pool like that!   I also agree with Pujo about charter and magnets and they will eventually be phased into the private divisions because it is obviously an advantage plus all the funding! Add that county schools can’t go recruit outside of their county like charters and magnets!
    • They should be starting next week and go from there.  They never do Spring Practice in April
