Surprised anyone would take the job at this point without knowing TSSAA punishment. Grace coaches feel punishment will be vacating wins for using ineligible player. Rumor ( but does come from TSSAA source) is punishment will be the worse ever handed out by TSSAA. So maybe something in between.

I am surprised, too. I don't know Mercer, but from all I've seen in the Knox News Sentinel and have read on CoachT, he seems like a standup guy. Just thought he would have investigated GCA a little more before accepting a position there. Very corrupt program that hopefully will soon be exposed after the current TSSAA investigation.

After years of bad coaching hires by Jon Mller and company he finally got it right and hired a good coach. Now the current administration screws it up by not making it a priority to get their head coach a teaching position in the building. To difficult to teach one place and coach another. As far as the new guy its a no brainer. Mitchell has the most experience, has head coaching experience, by far the most knowledgeable, and also has a State championship ring. If he want it he is the man. Or will the administration find a way to screw this up and destroy all the great work mercer did in his three years.

I'm not sure Mercer is teaching at Grace, either. It has been communicated that he is to be the Boys Head B-Ball Coach and Campus Pastor. So while they may not have made a teaching position for him, they did create a new position for him. Seems like the athletic department is getting all the money for staff new hires at Grace (i.e. most recently a new Asst AD position this year, a new Athletic Department Admin position this year, and a new Director of Volleyball Operations position that's already been hired for next year). For goodness sake, it's approximately a 225 student high school! I guess the parents there don't have a problem as to where their tuition money is going???

Mitch Mitchell will take the job. I thought at one point he was going to try the admin thing but i heard that he has a week to decide what to do. He is going to take it!

Why would Dre leave? him and coach mitchell get along.. if coach mitchell can not get dre at central.. I dont know who could!

STICKS!!

Its not any coach that got him there it was 100% Linwood. I personally hope that he doesnt leave but why would he stay if Mitchell got the job he didnt have that good of track record at Carter where he had talent everyone that knows the real coach in that family is his wife. He would still be a good assistant if they hire the right guy.

I have heard that Chris Lindsay, former head coach at West High has applied for the job. I think that he would be the best qualified. He is the most experienced of all of the candidates. He always had very competitive teams and ran a first class program at West. I heard that he retired from coaching to get into administration, but when the opportunity came up to be coach and administrator, he was denied that opportunity. I really can't understand how this has happened. I think that who ever hires Coach Lindsay will get a great coach.

    • Actually that young kid was in an offense that loved to throw the ball I believe.    Biggest problem for MC is if the coaching staff can figure out which mouths to feed at the appropriate time.
    • Have you ever been in education (administration) or a head coach? You’re responsible for all aspects of your program. If you were not checking the kids information correctly and left it up to someone else and they mess up. You’re held liable because it’s a failure on supervision, implementation of TSSAA eligibility and your school’s eligibility. Remember the wording in the article for him “CONTRACT NOT RENEWED” coaches are on a year to year contract and don’t sign the contract again until July. Do I believe he still should’ve been let go? Yes because you’re responsible for the total program and should be aware of everything going on. Do I believe he knew about the grade changes? No and that’s because nobody brought his name up until things got really bad and there is no indication with any paperwork showing he did. It’s just word of mouth from a teacher trying to cover herself.
    • TSSAA won't ever issue a death penalty, worst case scenario would be a post-season penalty that makes Clinton ineligible for the playoffs for a year or two (I believe 3 years is the most I have ever seen).  But TSSAA only does that in extremely rare circumstances.
    • I just want to echo that sentiment. Coach Woodmore is a good man and he is going to do things the right way and expect these kids to do things the right way. He will help grow them into fine young men. The wins will follow. I think Bolivar hit a home run.
