Best SP game ever

First of all Jimmy wigfall would never bragg on himself. he is a fine man i tell you that.. I hear he may be running for mayor though.. just a rumor for now. in that 86 game where the Ref blew the call a phone call was made to Grider apolagizing for that botched call..

 

I have Beenea Hyatt's article from the S.P. Hustler about those plays that has a statement from Ronnie Carter. The line judge was between the S.H. tight end and wingback. The wingback was 1 yard from the sideline and camouflaged by his sideline teammates. Ronnie Carter stated that the mechanics of the line judge was wrong and should have been lineup between the wingback and sideline. In essence the line judge is what made the trick-play work from a no huddle play. The refs were also out of position on the 2-pt try by Lehr. Lehr had converted a lot of 2-pt conversions that year.

For me the best game was the 1974 state championship game played at Beene Stadium. Brentwood Academy beat us badly, but if you were there, you just knew this game was special.

For me it had to be last year with Polk county. Even though it was a loss that game was very fun to watch after the first half was over. Both teams played very hard and it was good to see those boys never quit. I don't think that I have seen two team so determined not to lose as was the case last season.

The one thing I wish we would kind of get away from is all the show boating before warm ups. It just takes away from the hard nosed Pirates of the past.

I am from Morgan County and I traveled to the South Pitt vs Trousdale Co game in 98(Eddie Moore's senior year) and the year after in 99. The home team won each year and Both were 4th round games with Trousdale winning in 98 and SP winning in 99. To my memory, those were 2 of the best high school football games that ive ever watched.

Old Pirate says the teams mentioned have been special in their own ways, but the Pirates taking on the much larger Knox Powell in 1963 @ The Civitan Bowl is still a favorite to those fortunate to witness or play. The under dog Pirates travel to Knox to play a team that is far bigger and walk away with the WIN. Now you youngons jest might want to talk to great grand pappy before you dispute OP..

Though we just moved here 1998. I'd have to add the Tyner victory of 07. What a game! It meet all the hype head on. Featured some of best team player's I've seen at SP.

My heart rate jumps when talking about the 98 game...In my opinion one of if not the most talanted SP teams EVER.....Defense was just not prepared for QB follow and made Payne Superman that night....Bad play on defense by several didn't help and missed extra points made us attempt to throw more in 4th quarter but it was def a game between two phenomenal teams......99 was sweet redemption and a great game as well

Tyner game was def exciting although we were lucky to escape with a W...Rams were clearly ready to play that night and SP never seemed to get it going offensively outside of shotgun counter draw play...2007 was a very fun team to watch and extremely talanted...It was good to see SP break the trend (93&98) and win it all with one of most talanted teams to sport orange and black
