I apologize. I stand corrected. But, I think 1999 broke the trend.

Nope....93 more talanted than 94 when we won it all and lose....98 same thing again more talant than 99 and lose....2007 more talanted and won compared to past years trends....We had tendency to win it all the next years with less talant (although still EXTREMELY talanted) usually tough losses made team bond and come together and play more as a team the following years....2007 and 2008 where both great teams as well but 2007 bucked trend and won it all...Think it kinda hurt 2008 team in the end as they weren't as tight knit....All teams mentioned above where all very very talanted but most would agree overall talant/depth wise 93,98,07 where more talanted than the year that followed

For a 10 year old, you sure do know a lot about Pirate football!

Good post(s) though. Glad you joined the party that is... CoachT. :thumb:

Uncle Dave says the 93 team rekindled the trend of getting deeper in the playoffs than the

first round. The seniors on the 93 team played Greenback 3 years in a row in the 1st round

of the playoffs and their season ended. 93 was the beginning of a new era of Pirate football

when Danny Wilson became coach. The 93 team was in uncharted territory once they made it to

the second round (even though they got a bye the first week). If Uncle Dave remembers right,

DCA and Gordonsville were two tough games that came down to the 4th quarter...and then the

first meeting between SP and TC ended the Pirates season. Uncle Dave does agree that the

loses in 93 and 98 helped propel the next year's team to the title.

My heart rate jumps when talking about the 98 game...In my opinion one of if not the most talanted SP teams EVER.....Defense was just not prepared for QB follow and made Payne Superman that night....Bad play on defense by several didn't help and missed extra points made us attempt to throw more in 4th quarter but it was def a game between two phenomenal teams......99 was sweet redemption and a great game as well

Same here...the 98 Pirate squad at one time was the highest scoring high school team in the

country. Two players from that team signed with big colleges (UT, Navy) and there were

several talented juniors that had college potential. Uncle Dave was told by one of the

players that they changed defenses just for that game. Why do that?? I think confusion on defense plus the

superb talent on TC spelled doom for that team. Eddie Moore was definitely one of the best

players to put on a Pirate jersey.

TrainTracks99, I actually misunderstood the last sentence of your first post. Twice obviously. Stupid rookie mistake on my part. I seen 93 and 98 and win it all and went nuts. :roflolk: Ten years old my big ole butt. Welcome to the T btw. Now we'll talk about boyd on the other thread.

It was called the "Pirate Defense" and it was taken from BGA because they used it to beat TC that year....Only problem was that it put your outside backers on a island to stop everything outside of tackle box....BGA 's outside LB's had more size and plenty of time perfecting it I suppose cause we didn't have much luck with it.....John David Blair probably still has nightmares from Eddie Moore's neckbreaking stiff arm to the grill in the 3rd round .....Yes Mr Moore was one of best to wear Orange and Black indeed

Uncle Dave's source for the change in defenses was from "Pate"....me and him were pretty

tight back then. We definitely had the talent that year, TC just found a weakness and

exploited it for 4 or 5 touchdowns. If I remember right, the Pirates were ahead at one

point 20-7....two Thomas Payne runs later, they were up 21-20 and never looked back. I really

hate even thinking about that game to be honest....just bad memories.

Yep, Eddie did alot of spectacular plays that year....Greenback comes to mind for me when

he broke several long runs. That was a high scoring game!
