Alcoa vs Maryville

It's already been said, but this one is going to come down to line play. Alcoa absolutely whipped Maryville's front 7 last year. Warren might as well have lined up in the Maryville backfield to save energy. I'll be interested to see if they send a back at him all night this year on pass plays.

On a side note - this will be Sol Jr.'s first football game, so it better be a good one. :flower:

Very good game for Sol Jr's first game. Have a great one.

This game is like a royal family dispute, it will be bitterly fought, but afterwards both teams will move forward regardless of the outcome and have fabulous seasons.

My team plays in Region 4 AAA with Alcoa so I have more first hand knowledge on the Tornadoes, but I have great respect for the Maryville program. I am pulling for the smaller classification school to beat the larger classification school. Since Blount County is an open zone county, that argument is really a mute point for this contest. I know both programs have a healthy respect for each other, while still wanting to rub the others nose in it. Quarles and company are as good as it gets from top to bottom and Rankin's staff is very close to being just as good.

I think Alcoa will win this one in a very close battle. I believe players make their biggest jump in on field performance from their Sophmore to Junior seasons and from what I've read Maryville played a large number of sophomores last year and those will be the juniors on the field for the Rebels this year. Alcoa is loaded again, but it is a tall order for them to be 100% as good as last year.

If I were picking one football game in the entire state to watch, without regards to the school I pull for, this would be the one to watch. TN high school football really doesn't get any better than this. Good luck to both teams for an injury free, competitive game. :thumb:

Good post FBD! B)

The key for a Maryville win is the same as every year. Passing. Take away the Run from Alcoa and make them pass. Ive always thought Alcoa has been an average to sub par passing team in the past 10 years. Also teams that can pass on Alcoa's secondary usually do damage. Every year we get at least 1 long pass play from Maryville that goes for a TD. Passing is the Key for Maryville to win.

The key for an Alcoa win. Run the ball, Run the ball, run the ball and run the ball. Obviously to run the ball effectively you will need to control the line of scrimmage. Dominate the trenches like last year and keep the ball out of the Rebels hands.

The REBELS will be up to the challenge. Young but disciplined and talented , they will execute the GENERAL'S plan for victory. I'm with you REBELS ... give 'em heck! GO REBELS! Will be a great game.

I hope Maryville will be running General Braxton Braggs plan and not the silver fox, General Robert E. Lee's plan.................

You could be right, and definitely agree, that was the case last year. I think Alcoa's D might find Maryville's O-Line a bit more formidable this year however. I think Maryville's offense will be more effective this year than last, and I expect them to score some points. The jury is out on our D vs. Alcoa's O and that will tell the tale.

From last year's Alcoa DL you take away Robinson & #99. You plug in two potential studs on the left side of MHS's OL, and I think the up-front battle goes back to being in Maryville's favor.

    • Why? Low pay. Low budget thanks to the Rotary milking the programs revenue. Foul smell. There are other negative things... Positives: the players and being toward the top of the classification numbers wise.
    • What we have here is an influx of outsiders raining down on the town of Maryville like a swarm of locust trying to change our culture into the same crap they moved away from. I have no issues with anyone coming here but don't bring your politics with you. Most people around here never pay attention to the elections and keep letting the same ole rats and vermin right back in the back door and wonder why things are like they are. The problem at Maryville High is mainly due to letting outsiders get a foothold on control and shove their agenda down everyone's throat. Anyone that leaves there or let's say ranoff are replaced with an outsider with the same mindset. Eventually Maryville High will never be the same as it once was which I'm beginning to believe already but it's only chance of survival are to recruit people that will get in there and reverse the damage that has already happened.
