Alcoa vs Maryville

What's up with Coach T this year ? Usually when we're only 5 days away from playing , there's already 10 pages !

The Key for Maryville of course , is stopping the run . In Maryville's 2 losses last year they were beat by a couple of great athletes with speed . If Maryville can slow down Alcoa's running game just a little bit , I think they will have a chance to win , because Coach Quarles can usually find some way to score . Maryville's not used to being the underdog , but this year I believe we definitely are . Look forward to hearing everyone's take on the Big Game !!

From listening to people everywhere Maryville might as well not show up. Even a lot of Maryville fans are throwing in the towel. I also remember 2005. Alcoa looked so awesome in the jamboree in killing Sevier County. Maryville struggled to beat Pigeon Forge. In 2008 Alcoa looked so great in beating Sevier County and Maryville lost all their scrimmage games including the jamboree against Seymour. I thought Maryville would lose to Alcoa in 2005 and 2008. Maryville proved me wrong. Alcoa had a great team last year. Maryville started a bunch of sophomores who played like sophomores last year in that game. Those kids got better each and every game. Now those kids have grown up. Maryville is very good on the Oline,Receivers and have a very good back in Jacob West. I expect Robinette to do well also. Defense isn't bad but will get better.

Alcoa is a great team. Maryville is a great team also. I also know this. If it comes to a coaching matchup I wouldn't want no one else but Quarles. Maryville's staff is the best in the business.Maryville also has great special teams.

For Maryville to win they must force turnovers and not commit many themselves. They must get a lot of breaks. They must win the LOS and win special teams.

It will be tough for Maryville to win this game but I have all the confidence in the world the Quarles and company can get it done. They proved me wrong too many times.

Is Maryville tough enough? That is the question. Last years game proved that they weren't tough enough up front and over all to get the job done. It was a reversal of roles last year. In years past Alcoa wasn't tough enough to beat Maryville. I truely think that the team who wants it the most and is tough enough to go through some pain will win. I believe that there is not hardly a nickles difference between GQ and Rankin. By far the best 2 coaches in the state. I believe it will come down to the players. I believe that Alcoa is going to win by a couple of td's because I don't think that Maryville will be able to match the physicality of Alcoa. But we will see on Thursday. I believe that the qb for Maryville whoever it is will not have time to look down field to complete many passes bc of the pass rush that Alcoa will put on. It will be interesting also to see if Tallent for alcoa can throw the ball this year. If our passing game is good than we will win by 3 or more tds. Go Alcoa.

It's already been said, but this one is going to come down to line play. Alcoa absolutely whipped Maryville's front 7 last year. Warren might as well have lined up in the Maryville backfield to save energy. I'll be interested to see if they send a back at him all night this year on pass plays.

On a side note - this will be Sol Jr.'s first football game, so it better be a good one. :flower:

No doubt that Alcoa whipped us up front last year!!! and there is no doubt that the team that wins the battle up front this year will in all probability be the winner. I was reading the Times this a.m. and saw where the tornadoes will be down 1 lineman for this game how will that effect this battle within the war? I'm sure he will be missed just wondering who they had behind him. Does he go both ways?

The Lineman will be missed, but I like the backup linemen in the rotation. He played D line only.

Thanks BC I was just wondering, also I liked Rankin's answer when asked about it, something about just because the tssaa says 1 game that may not be all he sits. I love a disciplinarian.

This game is like a royal family dispute, it will be bitterly fought, but afterwards both teams will move forward regardless of the outcome and have fabulous seasons.

My team plays in Region 4 AAA with Alcoa so I have more first hand knowledge on the Tornadoes, but I have great respect for the Maryville program. I am pulling for the smaller classification school to beat the larger classification school. Since Blount County is an open zone county, that argument is really a mute point for this contest. I know both programs have a healthy respect for each other, while still wanting to rub the others nose in it. Quarles and company are as good as it gets from top to bottom and Rankin's staff is very close to being just as good.

I think Alcoa will win this one in a very close battle. I believe players make their biggest jump in on field performance from their Sophmore to Junior seasons and from what I've read Maryville played a large number of sophomores last year and those will be the juniors on the field for the Rebels this year. Alcoa is loaded again, but it is a tall order for them to be 100% as good as last year.

If I were picking one football game in the entire state to watch, without regards to the school I pull for, this would be the one to watch. TN high school football really doesn't get any better than this. Good luck to both teams for an injury free, competitive game. :thumb:

You could be right, and definitely agree, that was the case last year. I think Alcoa's D might find Maryville's O-Line a bit more formidable this year however. I think Maryville's offense will be more effective this year than last, and I expect them to score some points. The jury is out on our D vs. Alcoa's O and that will tell the tale.
